Looking to catch some sturgeon below cj. my dad has never fished there before for sturgeon he has a nice river runner with jet. Looking to see if anyone could give me a idea of a good spot in distance from the dam down river. Thank you for your help.

Can't help you with CJ.

Salmon Falls below Hagerman has a launch just below the dam on river right and it's less than a mile run to the dam. Fish right below the dam, just river left of the current plume.

Right below the bridge is a good hole, Do you have a depth finder?? afternoons have been best as the water comes up and the fish move around a little more.

yea depth finder find some deeper holes + some cut bait + some luck = sturgeon, I have personally never caught one, I have been twice and never actually landed one...

There are serveral holes from the ramp in grandview up to the dam.

Becareful if you had planned on using the ramp by the dam below the bridge. There is a very shallow burm that does not allow you to back your boat off the trailer or approach the ramp directly when the water level is lower.

If you run the river towards from grandview towards the dam, be careful and stay in the middle or slightly left. There is an area to the right that is decieving that looks like good water bit at time is only a couple inches deep.

I wouldn't even bother with the ramp at the dam right now. We saw a couple of dudes launch their flat bottom duck boat at "high" water, and they had to wade out and drag the boat by hand off the burm to launch it (they were only about calf deep in water too). At low water... forget about it. That little berm looks more like a hill. I've been down there 3 times in the last week, and the fishing has been excellent, but the water is low... there's rock burms everywhere.

From the sounds of it, your dad's boat should do fine plowing up to the bridge from Grandview. Metalhead is spot on, when going from grandview to strike, just don't even bother with being on the right hand side of the channel.

Just map out where the start and stop of a hole is, and stick your bait down there and hold on.

Nick is right on. Don't consider launching that boat at the dam. Go to Grandview to launch and then run towards the dam and stay from the middle to the left and just watch the water. There's probably 3-4 places in there where you have a real good chance of catching sturgeon. Just watch for deeper water on your depth finder and fish there. Fish at the up-river end of the hole by anchor if you can or from the bank if not but try to position your bait at the top end of the hole. for bait use cut bait as fresh as possible. catch a trout that day or bring crappie/trout/bluegill or something that's fresh. if you don't get a bite in 30 minutes to an hour then move and fish in a different spot. keep that up and you'll get in to them.
