After weeks and weeks of conflicts I woke up early this morning and decided to head to the Berry, It would be a short trip so regrettably I waved goodbye to my boat and headed up to fish from shore, (my least favorite way to fish) nonetheless I was finally on my way to my all time favorite lake to fish, I have been dreaming about it for weeks but just could not put it together.
I left the house at 5:00 am and parked the car at 6:30, it was a beautiful morning with a few dark clouds in the sky. My plan was to hike out to a point I always catch fish on in my boat, I figured that was my best bet, sure enough it was, I had a really fun day, Caught 8 Nice bows, largest being 5.5 lbs and several over the 20" mark. Boy they have some shoulders, I took my 5' rod because the hike was going to be long and did they ever fight, all the fish took acrobatic lessons and everyone of them got at least a 9.8. especially the big fish, he was insane I thought he was going to rip the pole from my hands.
Surprisingly I caught 2 cuts over the slot, one 24" and one 25 1/2" and several in the slot. It was one of the better days I have ever had on the Berry fishing from shore.
Even as good as my fishing was, the guys in a boat just 50 yds further out was slaying them, I was really wishing I was in the boat. But oh well, It was a good day, except now I'm back to work with several appointments the rest of the day. Having a real hard time focusing and dreaming about when I can get that boat on the water and have some more fun.
Since it was a short trip, I had made the decision to release all fish caught, I was actually pretty proud to release all those bright pink fillets' I really love to eat strawberry rainbows so it was tough but fun to watch the swim away for another day.
As usual though my luck would not allow me to catch a tagged fish. Maybe next time. Get up there its as good as it gets.
