Heading to Alaska for 11 days. 2 days on the Russian for Sockey, 1 day chartered halibut trip, and 7 day float for the Kings. I have been on this trip 5 years ago and had a blast.
I was hoping to probe my BFT pals and see what you all would recommend as far as lures/flies/tackle. The area we float prohibits the use of "bait" so any experience with plastics or anything else would be great.
I will be spending time between drifting/spinning and fly fishing so any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!
I am very knowledgeable on fly fishing so if you have a fly you think may be worth while be sure to mention the size/colors ect.
I leave in 8 days.

i don't think you could go wrong having a bunch of rubber egg clusters, single trout beads and okies (if you can find them). id for sure hit up some local shops and see what they typically use on their waters. cant wait to see some pics. i'm afraid the day i make it up there, i won't be coming back[

] good luck!!

Wow! Good luck.
There are several fly fishing sites that could help you.
First that comes to mind is a forum, so I can't post the URL. Just google "theflyfishingforum" North America section. Take a look at the Alaska section. Post your question and also PM Hardyreels on there. He is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Some others:
This one has some nice patterns:

The next one I got from Googling
"Flies, Salmon, Alaska". I am sure there is a lot more info on many sites.

Sorry I don't have any first hand info. My salmon fishing days on the coast were a long time ago, and we used most of the same flies for salmon that we used on steelhead.
Have a great trip!

If it's legal, take some small bottles of various scents - sardine, herring, krill, etc.
If you have a plug rod take some K16 Kwikfish....my favorite is the "double trouble" silver with chartrues nose and tail.
Salmon spoons [Tomic variety] and large inline spinners.

Strip a Las Vegas Show Girl and fill your cooler. Really that's all it takes. Have fun [

If you want to hook up some kings on flies bring chartreuse, pink, or purple intruder style patterns. When I was up there working we caught plenty of kings on peach, orange, and pink yarn under floats.

That's awesome man!! That is one of my dreams to do one day! Do you think I could fit in one of your suitcases? haha

I should be on that float plane with you ddahl3! Watch out for grizzly bears. I like your new waders dude. Maybe next year we can both make it up there!!

My home state! Enjoy. The Russian should be running hot right now. Are you going to go up to the lakes or stay in the river. Some beautiful trout in the lakes, and they love an egg sucking leach fly. Either way, enjoy. If my Dad wasn't in Maui right now I would have him show you the best spots, he lives on the Kenai.

I am pretty sure you and two other people would fit in the enormous bag i am taking.
SF_Austin, Wish you were headed up also. perhaps we need to donate bone marrow or sell a kidney to feed the habit.
Thanks for the feedback. It is much appreciated.
