Hey all! I just joined not too long ago because of the wealth of information that I have found here. I'm a shore fisherman as of now since I'm a poor college student with a family. Me and a buddy go fishing about twice a week in the twin falls area. Lately I haven't been doing too well on the snake(i believe it's mostly due to the low visibility and high water) so I've been trying to find some catfish. I've has some limited success catching bullheads at murtaugh lake and we've caught one channel out of there, but I'm ready to get more serious and catch a few more, larger fish. I'm not asking for anyone's secret honey holes or anything, but if anyone knows the catfishing around twin I'd appreciate some advice!

From what I've been able to glean for myself and from a friendly F&G officer, channels don't really like the snake right around twin because the large spring activity keeps water temps lower. I don't know if this is true or not but I have had no success on the snake near twin for any catfish whatsoever. I know dierkes has some, but it's limited hours makes it difficult for me(I like to fish at night due to time constraints).
I've heard milner and cj strike are good but they are both 1 hr+ away and I'd like to find someplace closer. So here's my big question: where is the closest area to twin falls where I can have a good chance of catching channel catfish? If I can get some general ideas or a good access point I can scout from there, I just would like some ideas on where else to look. Thanks!

I have some bad news for you. There is no place less than one hour away for a remote chance for a cat. Our river is not looked at as a good place to plant cats. PM me and I will try to help a little but to have a good chance at a cat you need to go to the river from Swan Falls to Brownlee. I have fished all the water in our area for cats I have felt you pain. Ron

as ron said cats are more downriver of swan falls. dont waste your money on strike because you probably wont do very good there. youll probably catch more bullheads than channels.

I will second that. It is true there are cats there, CJ just doesn't have many of them. Ron

Thanks for all the information. So milner is not really recommended either?

we use to fish out there and do well but haven't been for many years. I see people fish there and a few places around burley but haven't stopped and talked to any one to see if there catching anything. I do know there has been a boat out under the train bridge by snake river sports and talked to a guy at the marina the other day and he said they have been getting some nice ones. If you venture up this way have some minnows or sucker meat. If you wanted to give it a go try this place i sent a fellow bft member here last year and if i remember right he ended up with a 7lb fish.
