FISHING REPORT
STRIPED BASS -- The mouth of the Connecticut River has had some decent reports this week. Bass up to keeper sizes were caught from the DEP Pier under the Baldwin Bridge. Schoolies are still at the mouth of the Blackhall and a few bigger fish are along Great Island. The Race is still good with night tides far outproducing days and bucktails doing better than eels at times.
Bunker are still pretty thick at the mouth of the River and have been productive along the Old Saybrook shoreline.
BLUEFISH -- The Race is fairly loaded during the daytime and fewer reports from Plum Gut and Pigeon Rip. There's been some big blues at Great Island for pluggers.
FLUKE - Long Sand Shoal has officially changed its name again for the summer to Short Sand Shoal. It seems like another body of smaller fluke have moved in from here to Fishers Island. Were still weighing in a few doormats from the deep waters off Black Point and Hatchetts. As far as traveling for fluke, we haven't heard a lot of news from Block or Montauk.
Our Fluke Contest started May 15th. There's some changes. It's going to be a 3 shop contest. River's End, Hillyers and the Fish Connection. Top prize will be $1000 and you can enter or weigh in at any of the shops. We will also weigh in fluke for Fishin' Factory III in Middletown.
Last weeks winner was Julio Segarra with a 6.60 pounder.
PORGIES - We've had some good reports the last few days from Hatchetts and we suspect the other nearby reefs are doing well also.
BLUE CRABS - The crab reports are starting to come in from the Connecticut and Oyster Rivers as well as the Niantic area.
