Today was a very good day. I got to the river about 6:00am and started to fish about 7:00 I wanted to try a little different set up. I didn't see anything on the fish finder and nothing was jumping. At 10:00 I saw a Sturgeon jump. I got over there quick and dropped a line. BAM I am on!!! As soon as the hook sinks in the fish is in the air. I had quite a fight but it didn't last long It took me less than 10 minutes to land him. This fish was about 4 foot maybe a pinch more.

SO I went back out to the spot. Again I see a sturgeon do a tail stand about 10 yards from the boat and BAM!! I got another fish on. WOW this fish pulled hard. But it was another "cookie" sturgeon 4 foot maybe a pinch more.

I thought WOW maybe 3 is a charm. I get back to the spot and BAM!!!!
This fish fought good too. At one point he did a big splash right in front of my feet and then went under the boat. I had a couple of tense moments there.

Well I thought to my self there is no way I am going to hook up again. SO I go back out to the honey hole and NOTHING! The river flow was changing a bit and I could not hold in the hole. I started to drift down to the bottom of the hole and another fish rolls and BAM!! I got #4 on. From what I saw he looked about the same as the others. Then all of a sudden I feel him working into a rock and I thought I lost him. A couple more moments and he has me wrapped on a rock and my line busts.
It was an unbelievable day for me. I was beat by the time I was done. I landed all three fish in less than 30 minutes total. I have video that I will be posting soon. Ron

That's great Ron! One of these days I'll try out some other sections for sturgeon.

I can't wait for you to hook into a 6 or 7 footer on your toon!

To be honest I don't know how that will go down. They are hard to control to get unhooked. It feels like I am going to slip out of the seat as I am unhooking them. I have caught 4 now from 4 foot to 5 foot. This size is fairly easy to land quickly. They fight unbelievably hard for a little while. I think that they can handle getting pulled on from the side but when your right over the top of them it seems to wear them out quicker. I am looking at the videos and I think most of the fights are less than 5 minutes. Man my arms are sore. Ron

Wow! That has to be one amazing experience. Looking forward to the video. How many fishermen can top that adventure....4 sturgeon hooken in 30 minutes, and three released to live again. Congrats. Mike

That's an interesting point on bank yanking and boating them. By far... It's easier to get them to roll over in the boat than the bank. I don't know if it necessarily tires them out more or if being right on top gives you more leverage to flip them. Either way... I think its amazing you got the guts to even try it! What set up are you using? Looks like a med ugly stick with a 5000 series reel. That's almost more impressive than catching them in your toon haha

The rod is a Med heavy glow stick and the reel is a Abu 6601c4. Ron

Way to go Ron!!! That is fantastic. You're the sturgeon man in a pontoon!!!!

All I can say is WOW!

Thanks everyone. I had to share that. I was so excited I could hardly make a tie for the sinker I was shaking so bad after that first one. Ron

Heck of an accomplishment Ron! Not too many people can say they landed a sturgeon from a toon.
