I got a new (to me) 18' Alumacraft 1860 with Merc 80 jet a while back and finally got my girls out on it. The boat has been parked in my garage over the winter and in the last couple of weeks we have got it out and running. First trip was just a test drive with me and a couple buddies to make sure she would still run. This trip was the first trip with the kids. We took her out across the lake, dropped the trolling motor, and the kids all cast out. About 20 minutes into it, my oldest daughter says "Dad! I got one!" Cool, first fish in the new boat! The fishing pretty much sucked after that, we never caught another. We were mostly out getting used to the boat anyhow. A good time was had by all.

He was a little LM, caught along the weeds on a 4" cinnamon weightless Senko.

Good for you getting your girls out to do some fishing. Seeing your photo brought back a lot of memories for me fishing with my daughter when she was a youngster. Enjoy them while you can because they grow up really fast.

Awesome. I love to see the kids out there. If I could do it over again I would of changed one thing so I offer you this from experience.
Take your kids to places like Cascade where they can yard in perch or CJ for Crappie.
I took my son too many times early on for Steelhead, etc instead of places where it was easy to to catch fish and wonder if I made to boring.
Anyway...good on ya!

Thanks for the replies guys! We love the new boat and hope to spend a lot of time in it this year. I want to get more familiar with Lake Lowell and then venture out on the Snake, CJ, and Owyhee.
MHG- We're planning a trip to Cascade for Monday July 2nd. I hope I can get them into a big mess of Perch. They sure are fun to fish with and I cant get enough of hearing them say "Dad, I got one!!"
ps- they like to go hunting too!

When I picked up my little 14' a couple years ago, I had no idea what an awesome tool it would prove to be in my efforts to raise my 5 sons. I can honestly say that I have MUCH better relationships with my children thanks to our boat. We're closer to one another, we're building memories, and we're continuing a fantastic tradition of fishing in my family.
Good luck with yours!
