Well, I don't quite know where to point the blame, but I am guessing most if it lays on me. I think as the failure goes it is a number of things to be honest. I went to SFCR today to do some walleye fishing. I was going into the back end and WOW the road was bad. I got everything ready to go and sat down the bam the boat lists to one side. I started looking and the frame was badly cracked at the seat supports. So I took everything off, loaded it up and left. When I got to the pavement it was toast.
I am sure that the gas motor is partly to blame. The weight is close to max too. While I am on that subject of weight I am sure that sturgeon pulling on it probably went over the weight rating by a large margin. Never the less I am grounded. Now to figure out what to do. I am thinking that with the gas motor and heavier weight I am leaning to going with a Outlaw X5. I need to do some thinking. Ron

I'm glad it happened when it did. Halfway thru a rapid with a sturgeon tied on would be more thrilling, though.
With all the goodies you are hanging on the little conduit frame, and the species you have started targeting, is there enough reasons to start considering a small boat you can move around in and have more capacity?

That's really lame Ron. Good thing it didn't happen while you were out a ways.
Outlaw x5 or the bladderless H20 both by NFO I'm sure would be great. I think the h20 is a 1,000 lbs weight capacity. The x5 you could probably have a party on it with a few friends haha
Sorry to hear that happened, but it sounds like you'll be getting a nice new toy out of it.

Looks like a welding shop could set you up with a new beef up on that frame Ron. As was mentioned, the timing probably was better now than on the river!

I am thinking about the x5. For a long time I have thought it would be a nice ride. Now I am thinking even more. Ron

You might consider getting the frame rebuilt.
Make the center section with thicker wall pipe with good welds. Maybe make the seat area solid instead of removable. You could make the two side arches come into a larger id pipe and put your pins for disassemble there instead.
Anyway, glad it happened on shore.
FG maybe selling their X5 soon. I think they are out fishing for the weekend.

There are some stressors where bigger is better!

I would just have it rewelded. Same thing happened to my south fork. Rewelded it no problem for 10 years.

Good Lordy! Thinking back to your sturgeon video, if that had happened on the Snake, which looked like pretty severe water conditions with that rapid water, you might have been toast. Before you decide anything, you might find the nearest church, cathedral, temple or synagogue, and thank the guy upstairs. Whew! Mike

I talked to a frend of mine this afternoon that has a blacksmith shop. Every weld would need to be fixed. And it really is not just the welds that broke. The pipe tore apart. he didn't and I just don't think that thickness of pipe is going to work. I would be looking at a total rebuild or total replacement of both sides. For what I am going to do with it I don't think this frame is going to work. Depending on the price I might get oem parts and sell it, or sell the toons separate. This frame is toast.
I need more info on the x5. Ron

No doubt! Ron

Get it and get it soon! This is the time of year to be on the water.

Think a drift boat with a 8-10 hp kicker would be right up your alley.

Sorry to hear about your pontoon boat Ron, and I'm glad to hear you're OK and not still hanging on to a sturgeon while treading water down near Strike Reservoir by now.
If you want to upgrade your ride, this is the time. Think of all the things you want to upgrade or change and the fun you'll have outfitting a new 'toon to your needs.
Good luck.

Ron,
Glad that didn't happen on the water. That would have been really bad.
I tried to get you to buy one of my X5's I had for sale here a while back. The X5's with the 1000 lb plus capacity would be a nice upgrade.

Phil, I am dang glad that didn't go out on me with a Sturgeon on.
Excaliber551, I wish I would have got one back then. I was on the fence and was almost there. Too bad you don't still have them. Ron

Sorry Ron[crazy][pirate]
Had that happen on my toon a few years ago. Got to Cove Arm and sat down and it let go. Loaded up and went home. Thankfully where I work they weld aluminum so got it all welded up and off I went.
Must admit I was very tahnkfull it was in by shore and not out on the water, could have been a chalenge.[

Glad you are OK Ron! I think you are wise to be considering the frameless 'toons.

glad too hear you are alright, figure a welding shop of some sort could fix you up with a beefed up frame for not so much $$$, but good luck either way you go,
Matt
