Hey Anglers, I found this no muss, no fuss kit for you if you are having problems finding dye for your crawlers.

You can find them at Wallys World for around 4 1/2 bucks. It will make several dozen nitro green crawlers. The brand name is Lindy.

Thanks a bunch, I have a few dozen crawlers left over from fishing trips this fall and need to "spice" them up a bit so there is my experimental batch. I'll let you know how it turns out!!

Once in a while, at Gander Mountain, I see stacks of something similar for 99 cents. It's a soil that you moisten, put the worms in, and in a few days, the worms are ready! Stuff even turns their poop green!
They used to carry a red one and an orange one as well but not sure if they'll be carrying those again. They were clearanced last year.

[cool] I was looking for something new to dye them with. I ran out of easter egg dyes and regular food coloring doesn't work too well. The dye you use needs to be more of a water based.

Have you figured out how to have a multi-colored worm yet?

[cool] I'm still working on that one. I was thinking of useing the old tye dying trick but the worms just don't like to be strapped with those rubber bands and dipped into hot dye. ha ha.

Haha. I was thinking the same thing but don't think that will work. How about threading a string through their bodies, holding them straight, and then dipping them in coloring as previously stated in the other post?

how about if you put them on a harness and dip them in sperkles just prior to casting. lol

But your sparkles idea is a good one. It gave me an idea as well. How's about painting multi-colored stripes on them with the missus fingernail polish?

How does coloring and scenting the crawlewrs work for icefishing?

The color will give them a little more attraction for the fish to see. Scenting on the other hand give them some flavor to lock onto. In some areas that could be a deadly combo for the fish.
Keep in mind certain species of fish are attracted to some scents but not others. Experiment in your area and find out what works best.

Garlic tends to be a popular flavor. So is salt. I have seen powerbaits with anise and vanilla and various other things as well. Of course, there's a whole line-up of flavorings that you can spray on your baits but I'm not sure if live worms would like the stuff. There's one way to find out! I've got enough small tubs to test it out. Shall I do an experiment and report my findings?

[cool] We would love to hear a report. There are several scents that can be used. Crave brand makes garlic, anise, corn, for trout and they do have a bass scent as well. It is primarily a combinatio of shad and crawdad extracts.
They also make an anchovy and nightcrawler scent for cats. You know me, being blonde, the first thing I would do is scent my crawlers with some of their own scent. duh. Actually the anchovy scent works pretty well, even in the ocean.
There is also a natural scent that is especially for ocean. It is a combo of anise, garlic, chovy, crawdad, shad extracts and minnow.

I've seen them but I'm refering to the aerosol sprays. Not sure if they'd actually work or not. I'm thinking if the oils don't kill the worms, it just might work.
