heading down to payson lakes this weekend. does anybody know if dogs are allowed there and if so can they be on the shores/in the water if kept on a leash? i dont let em run around and bug other folks but they sure hate being stuck at the campgrounds while im off catching interesting fish...

Not sure about if they are allowed in the water, but I know you cannot leave them unattended in the campground unless inside a vehicle or RV.
In this heat you would also need to leave the A/C on in a vehicle to prevent complaints of animal abuse.

ya, there is no way i would leave them locked in the truck in this weather. i also dont want to leave them in my tent trailer. i think they would find a way out of there, its old and not too secure and the dogs are crafty and determined[mad]. what im really hoping to avoid is my girlfriend/kids being stuck at the campgroung babysitting them while i'm/kids off fishing and enjoying the lakes. seems a bit unfair. unhappy girlfriends are not cool...

Darn, sounds like the girl friend or the pup has to stay home. Take the kids though, they can shag your pepsi's.[laugh]

whatcha sayin' jim? no dogs at the water?
leaving one or the other home isn't gonna work. might just have to shorten the trip...

My heck, its an age old problem. A man has to choose between his dog or his girl. When you are close to 70 though, it is easier, I love my Shelty(smoke dog). Martha can sometimes (most always) be a pain.Sorry I don't know about Payson lakes, if smoke dog can't go, neither can I. Hoping Martha wants to go.

Do all the campers and fishermen a favor and leave your dogs home.

Dogs = part of the family! An unhappy girlfriend is definitely not cool! I'm not sure about Payson but I'm completely with you on this one...I hate having others watch the dogs while you're away. We often talk about leaving them at the local kennel for a few days but I can never make myself do that. Something about the look they give you when you are packing all your stuff up and they follow you back and forth from the house to the trailer/boat everytime and wag their tail and get sparkly eyes and bury their bones as if they are putting their stuff away and getting ready for vacation...ahhh man, get in the truck Tank, let's go!

+1 and then some!!! Any dog around a fisherman is not cool. I have a dog and it stays in my boat, truck or at home. I hate it when people say "my dog won't bother anything". Yeah, right.......

roaway, perhaps you have dogs that are ill behaved that will annoy everyone else? mine aren't. they won't be bothering anyone that doesn't have a pre-concieved dislike for our k9 friends. our dogs are part of the family......

honestly, when fishing around other people, i find their dogs to be much less annoying than their kids. it's funny how if a dog comes over to sniff you it's an awful pest but peoples unsupervised childeren running amuck is just part of the deal.

i hope this doesnt come off as rude, that is not the intention but the reason i ask and find dog friendly places is so that other people who are there know what to expect. it's nice to have a place the dogs can go. if you dont want to be around dogs....there are plenty of dog free places to go.

Some Camp Grounds you cannot leave your dogs unattended, or in a trailer.
I am a dog lover and I agree, if he isn't welcome I don't frequent.
As far as your dogs being well trained, I hear that often as well. Every time I walk my dog through the park and come across someone else with their dog. I will say 100% of the time, their dog has reacted in a way they did not know. I have been attacked by more "friendly" dogs then I can count, sorry...you just don't know "how" your dog will react. No one does.
But if on a leash, you can control.
I do not feel dogs belong on beaches unleashed, however. Just my feeling and as I said I am a dog owner and lover. If their are people, meaning a PUBLIC place....leash them, it is becoming the law everywhere, and courteous on the owners behalf.
Can you google up your location and find out? Maybe even a phone number to the camp ground.

I too am a dog-lover. Must say - appreciate your effort to check if they are allowed. See plenty of dogs in places there are not allowed, or off leashes where leashes are required.
I've got a "wireless fence", but have had the doggie patrol stop by to "check 'em out". Might bark up a storm, but they do NOT cross the line (even when chasing deer!)
I would love to work out the means to take the dogs on my 'outings'. But I don't care who ya are, and how well trained/behaved they might be - dogs are animals. They scrounge, they'll eat anything edible, and plenty of things anyone in their right mind would say ain't food stuffs!
I worry about the hooks. Potential to step on one, gnaw at some bait on a rod, my pup is young and dumb, so what can I say. She sure would like to join those adventures she smells on my shoes, pants, gear - when I get home. (can you say guilt trip?!)
I also agree about unattended, or poorly attended kids. I've had someone else's kid come and try to "release" fish I'd put on a stringer. Um, er - thanks, no. Or the kid who was chucking rocks into the water, when I hear PLUNK against the side of my boat. Dad says next to nothing! Whatever happened to a good spanking!!!
i agree. my dogs are leashed at all times when in public. i believe they will behave but you cant be for sure. plus, i certainly dont trust ther people and their unleashed dogs.
i was able to get a # for the national forest area manager and they told me dogs are allowed on the campgroung, around the lake, on the rocky shores but NOT on the grassy beaches or IN the water. sounds perfect. i can easily adhere to all those rules and my dogs should have just as good of time as i will.

I am a part time camp host at the Spanish Fork reservoir. Dogs are not allowed on the reservoir but they are allowed in the camp grounds and else where. They are subject of alot of complaints from campers. The fishermen were complaining so much this spring the city started us early.Owners, when confronted say but he is part of the family. I am sure you are a responsible owner but I see the need for dog rules.

Different body of water but same story.
My father and I fished Deer Creek for 3-4 summers in a row, frequently... and the one day out of the blue a ranger approached us (we're on our boat) and he tells us we cannot have our dog on board with us. Against the rules.
What a crock of !!$@$%. We never came back. If they are going to be that uptight about something as silly as having a dog on your boat, well then they don't need any of my $ in park/launch fees.
Dogs on people's boats do not decrease the quality of the water. There are dead animals, animal fecal matter, all sorts of nasty stuff in the lake that gets filtered out. Taking it out on the dogs is just absurd.

Wild animal have different poop than domestic...seriously. Theirs is more bio friendly, but I am totally with you on not allow my dog on my boat. That one I don't get.

It seems to me that if there are dog friendly campgrounds and non dog friendly campgrounds then the folks that are bothered by other peoples dogs have a place to be. so do the dog owners and people who arent bothered by the dogs. it makes no sense to go to a place and complain about what is allowed there. if it is in the rules that dogs can be there and people are following the leash laws then no one should have a right to complain. i understand wanting to go to a place without dogs. its nice sometimes. so, in that case, select a dog free area. there are plenty.
its also nice to have a place that dog owners can go and take the family pet and not have to pay a dog sitter or a kenneling service. who knows how they treat your dog when you aren't there. not to mention, they arent cheap.
plus, its payson lakes. its not like someone is hiking their dogs miles up in the uintahs and turning em loose to jump all over some dude that backpacked in 15 miles for some solitude.......
you are right, there IS a need for dog rules. but there is also a need to have a place that responsible dog owners can take their pets and enjoy the outdoors.

i agree, dogs in boats dont hurt anything. i see dogs in boats almost every time i go to deer creek. i never knew it wasnt allowed. perhaps that ranger was having a bad day and being overly grumpy????
