rainbows can and will develop a slash underneat their jaw.... they are rainbows but they have cutthroat markings

Happens all the time at Strawberry. Makes it very tough to tell the difference.
As far as water in question, I would just figure they are all cutts. I have not seen or caught any bows to my knowledge.

I've never noticed that at the berry before. Though I also have not worried about keeping any there so maybe I haven't worried enough to notice. Thanks for the info though. I'll keep my eye out now

Most times you will definately know which one it is...however at the berry it is better safe than sorry.

This guy I caught out of the Strawberry Pinnicals was definatly a Rainbow but had slash marks under it's jaw. This was the only one I have caught so far that was a Rainbow with Cutty markings. I highly doubt this fish was a cuttbow. Places like Little Dell are easier to tell which species are which...cause there are no Rainbows there. At least I hope not!

They put the rule into place for the people that can't tell the difference between the two.

It's just easier to have a rule like this that is less confusing than trying to teach people how to identify between the two.

I would say that it saves a lot of people some explaining or tickets from guessing wrong on their catch.

And at Strawberry many of the cutts lack the slash markings. Can make it quite confusing until you get to know what you are looking for.
