Havent posted for a bit, so I figure it's about time.
My dad has been thinking about getting a boat lately, because he hates shore fishing, but my mom absolutely loves fishing and he wants to be able to take her. He has been having some health issues, so he wanted to make sure that he would be able to sit out on a boat without getting too sick. Naturally I was more than willing to help him with this experiment .
We got out to the Cutler area around 7:30 and took right off. Got to the first spot and before too long I had about a 16" kitty on. I was going to throw him back, but my dad thought it what look good adorning his table, so I kept that one. A little time passed and I caught another channel and a mudder. I told my dad sometimes scents from different soaps and stuff could mess things up, but he decided to keep trying for a while. I pulled in another one and he finally let me bait his hook for him. Not too long after I did, he finally broke the skunk.
The most interesting part of the day actually came when I broke my line. I had a hook up and when I went to set the hook, my line must have drifted under something because it instantly broke with not much pressure. I figured I would pick up my bobber later and kept an eye on it when suddenly it started bobbing again! Apparently the line wrapped around the bobber so it didnt just slip off like it usually does. I figured that if I pursued it, it would just take off so we sat and watched it for a while. It went back and forth for about an hour and never got more than 25 yards from where I first hooked him. It was interesting to me because I always thought catfish moved more than that. At any rate, after that time we decided to see if he would let us get up to him and I guess he was too tired to run away because we were able to set the little guy free. Ended up being just a little mudder.
All said and done we had some good fun (so much in fact that my dad called me later and we headed to SLC to pick him up a boat ). We were off the water around 12:30 and ended up with 4 decent channels, probably another 4-5 channels that were too small so we sent them back, a handful of mudders and a carp a piece. I caught the majority of the fish, but we both had fun. The picture below was the only one I took, but at about 20" it was also the biggest of the day.
