I thought I would share some pics... I was reflecting on a nice spring for some okay size and good action bass fishing. AND the nice cool temps. Soon it will be fall and I will be reflection on the dog days of summer. [
]
The guy holding the bass is my uncle... that is his FIRST LMB, not bad for a lucky sob using my rod, my lure, and one of my kayaks...All but the two I am holding up made it back to fight another day. My uncle was hell bent on trying LMB... he approves.
Good Luck

Beautiful fish man. Have you ever fished from a small pontoon? If so which do you like more, Kayak or toon. How do you like the yak fishing ?

I have not fished out of a toon. Fished along side though. The main advantage of the kayak is speed and stealth. I've caught a lot of fish within feet of the yak, and also hit carp before they've seen me. Without a motor you can cover a lot of ground, again, quietly. They are surprisingly easy to long line troll. Also because they are narrow and you are so low you can get to some really cool places. Another good thing in the wind, is you are low. I haven't had a wind that I couldn't just put my head down and row into/through. I also haven't been out on the Gorge or Berry when their winds hit. I would think they could stop ya'. The bad thing is that you are low and have a terrible angle for sight fishing. Or just having a good view. And it takes some practice one hand fishing and rowing when you need too move with gear in water or when a fish pulls you into shore. (on a side note I have tried but failed... But will try again and again PV for a big TM... That would be an epic battle out of a kayak.)
I have 2 10 foot Old-Town anglers. They are just their normal yak with rigging and rod holders. I guess you could stand in it.... But probably not long
. Mine were $600 each (wife thought she wanted one too, works out great to take out buddies in) but you can spend more and get more. I've done some research on Hobie Anglers. They have foot propulsion and are stable enough to stand. They'll be 1600+ to start. I hit DC quit a bit...If you ever see me out splashing around holler, I'll let you give it a try.
Hope that helps... If not ask away.

One more thought on kayaks. Unless you buy the specific fishing model from Hobie, or one of the other made for fishing kayaks. Don't waste the money. My old town kayaks were 350 if you got the standard version. The rod holders are 20 bucks and the rigging was 30, both available at Cabelas.
Now I'm done

I've been feeling the same way lately. My favorite bass lakes are way down and mucky. I've been having a tough time getting into quality bass the past couple of weeks. Fall will be good though.

For that lake....that is a good lookin LMB..although it pleasures more than just me to say that DC holds bigger LMB than that!
I have caught quite a few LMB out of that puddle...it is good to see that others are doing the same. For LMB...that lake is often over looked.
Thanks for your post and pics.

I had one on a few weeks ago, she spit my delicious plastic bait on a nice head shake, I think my foot would have fit in her mouth. I really want another shot at that one. I live in the avenues, I have been thinking about committing some time to echo, or even EC for the smallies as they are closer to my casa.
you have any input on those places, or others? This is my first year LMB fishing and I am loving it.

If you want to hit Echo you had better hurry. They are draining it way down so that they can work on the dam.

do you know when that will happen? BTW, bow nut, thank you for the fish-finder advice. I also bought the HB 120, it is working quite well for me and the no color doesn't seem to affect the read out, so thanks for keeping the $100 bucks in my pocket...
I owe you the frosty beverage of your choice! maybe two frosty beverages now that you've kept me off a dry lake, hahaha.
that's too bad about letting it way down....I wonder how many years it will take to bounce back, 10+ years ago we used to catch the nicest fattest bows out there.

They have been draining it all summer hence the reports of people being surprised of the flows on the Weber River.
They are doing the same type of work that they did on Deer Creek a few years ago giving it a better foundation to help if there is ever an earthquake.
Glad that the fishin buddy is working for ya. The more that I play with mine the more that I like it. Have found a couple of things that it doesn't excell at but for the price I can deal.

Cooler temps i can handle, but i dunno about the water level. Its been a slaughter for me the last few weeks. Literally carry 3 lures and im done wiped out in an hour. Same stretch of water your in there. If it aint the LMB its a pleasant walleye surprise. Think the SMB all packed up and headed to the east side for a while. Thinkin about hitting the water a bit in the morning after work. Cant drive by every morning after a shift and not throw somethin. [fishin]

I never tried a fishing kayak (or any - just canoe in boy scouts), but I do use a fly-fishing pontoon boat with oars. It's a Venture Outdoors:
http://www.ventureoutdoors.net/pages/DURAPRO.html
and in the photograph attached.
I used it at Grantsville, Mantua and East Canyon Reservoirs this spring, but as indicated by back2fish, it is hard to manage in the wind though it is a very stable and seaworthy fishing platform. I've been thinking of selling or trading or keeping it and getting a fishing kayak. Actually, I'm thinking more of keeping it now that sight fishing and standing has been mentioned. That just got me thinking as I write this. Where I work, I have a complete fabrication shop, so I might TIG weld a custom frame for it specifically for standing. The current frame is for rowing and it also has an unused battery box and trolling motor mount. I have the trolling motor, but have never used it because I blessed with phenomenal athletic ability as a bicycle racer and don't mind rowing because it's great for fitness. But, bass fishing in Mantua Reservoir was windy and in the trees was hard to maneuver while also fishing. At Grantsville Reservoir where the picture was taken, I also talked to a guy who had the Hobby you described with the foot powered propulsion and a sail and a tiny trailer to walk it to the launch. I have pictures of that also. See the second picture. They are expensive, but I might buy one anyway. Actually, I was seriously thinking of that someday, but now it is intriguing me that I might modify my fly-fishing boat as described and maybe use the trolling motor and battery and stand up and fish without bothering with exercise and saving that for bicycling which brings up another project. I just read the Jordan River post and yes, there are excellent bicycle trails on that and more north and the Provo River that I discovered by catching a young lady bicyclist with my back cast while fly-fishing. She was a fine catch and very friendly and understanding as I removed the hook that caught her Lycra bicycle jersey. But, unfortunately, she was catch and release only because she was married. Anyway, I will either put bags and rod holders on my road racing bicycle or buy a mountain bicycle to ,make into a dedicated fishing bicycle because there are also dikes around the reservoirs with all or part of it prohibited to motorized vehicles. Seeing many bicycle riders on the reservoir roads while fishing had me thinking I can get around well for shore fishing that way and actually spend more time fishing and less time moving to the next spot.
Anyway, those are my subject hopping thoughts which I present here for any ideas or suggestions or possible trades or swaps for the experience. It occurs to me that I should spend very little time fishing the same spot and have confidence in my lure and abilities and leave to fish and cover a lot of area fast fishing to be fishing where the fish are. The fishing bicycle will do that for me for shore fishing and in this topic has even got into fish finders which has also been intriguing me and now particularly since I might modify my fly-fishing pontoon boat including getting a fish finder and maybe a fancy one. I'm even thinking of having a side arm mounted solar panel that also serves as shade. That would be quite comparable with having a deep cycle battery and trolling motor and fish finder.
