For the past couple years I've taken the opportunity to camp and fish in your great state for a week while the kids attend camp. Destination Sawtooths, Lake Alturas in particular. This year the boy is a week off from the girl. So my son will have the pleasure of camping with me while my daughter attends camp. HE even suggested I get him a fishn pass for while we're there (hooray!). Even said he's try the wand-flinging thing.

This year I'll be packing a Fairy Wand, along with the usual spinning gear, plus a few of my own "creations". Bound to snap a few photos along the way. If nothing more - I can be sure to visit some of them monster salmon at the hatchery up by Red Fish lake. Impressive!

The Infamous Dolly Varden - No Bull - that's a great trout!

I was at Alturas yesterday, but didn't have time to fish. It looks like a nice lake, I hope your time there is enjoyable.

We were at the hatchery 2 days ago. They are holding a lot of monster chinook right now.

Glad Friday's (the 13th's!) thunder storms didn't stick around! Great week in a great state! Sure envy you folks the access to those Big Salmon! Managed to meet some littler ones - my first Kokanee.

I posted up my report on the Utah site. No monsters, but some fun fishing outings all the same. Beautiful country no doubt!
I also posted a second report on our Sawtooth Hatchery Visit.

Now I gotta figure out how to make use of my Salmon permit while the season is still on, without traveling 6 hrs to do it.

Any info, suggestions on Salmon fishing Southern Idaho would be welcome. Sure appreciate chatting with the anglers I bumped into up there. Always nice to ask some questions, and get some helpful pointers. Saved a few Bull Trout for proper release, helping some other campers identify the Dolly Varden. Some kids are always excited to keep a catch, but sometimes you can't, other times you don't want to (squaw suckers!).
