I like to start off this post by thanking all of those who send me fly tying materials to get me started. I appreciate it more than any of you probably realize, you guys are the best! I've tied quite a few but this is the only one I actually feel good about showing off [laugh]:

On to the report! Last week I had a family reunion in eastern Idaho! My great-grandmother runs a dairy farm in the foothills of the western side of the Teton Valley. I absolutely love this place, and hopefully you can see why:

We hiked in from the top this time and it was a much more bearable hike. When we got down in I started fishing immediately. I caught a total of 7 on flies and spinners:

On the soft hackle fly:

And on the spinner:

I was on a roll with these fish, 6 fish in 6 casts, when my progress was halted when my cousin miscalculated and landed in the shallow water off of the rope swing. He sliced his foot down to the planter tendon on a sharp rock. I had no clue what was going on, because I was on the opposite side of the lake, it was pretty scary. We hauled him out with the help of some very kind gentlemen that happened to be there with fourwheelers. He's doing better now, but he can't pitch for a few weeks, which is bad news for any Madison Bobcat baseball fans out there haha [Wink]

Thanks again guys!

Great report, but too bad about the sharp rock. That rope swing isn't very long and can be a bit tricky. Tell him next time you are going to the upper PaliSades lake, the swing there goes way out over the water if it is still there.

Too bad about your cousin. Nice fish!
Just my suggestion on the fly, don't trim it blunt. It needs that taper of the hair tips, plus, by cutting the tips, you are opening the hollow shaft of the hair. It will still float but can become water logged easily. Other than that, great tie.

Great job on the tying and the fish. It's too bad your cousin got hurt. Things happen... Thankfully you had some help there and the distance in there isn't too great.

+1 on what FG said. Your fly is good and will catch fish, so keep tying. It's a lot of fun!

There are some good videos on youtube as well as all the fly suggestions and help available at Charlie's Fly Box.
