Made it up to Manns Creek Res this morning, took me a while to find the trout, they were out pretty deep. My fishfinder showed 75 degree water, they were mostly 30 feet & deeper.
After I found them, I hooked a nice little 12 incher right away with trout nuggets.
And then all hell broke loose. My FF was going nuts showing fish everywhere around me. While I was unhooking this guy, my live well got hooked up on a zipper for my float tube bladder, and it came part way unzipped. No biggie, I thought, I'll just keep an eye on it.
Heh, every time I moved, the zipper moved. I soon realized my boat was attempting to eject the bladder. So.... mad dash back to shore, while I held the zipper in place. Almost had another fish on my way in, but I was too preoccupied to set the hook, and off he went.
After my race for shore, I was too friggin tired to go back out. I may try again tomorrow, now that I know where to look. It took me 3-1/2 hours to find them this morning!

wow sounds scary ! lucky you didn't get pulled into the glory hole ! i haven't been there in a few years is it still there? looks like water going down a toilet drain by the dam. i tried to fish by it the current was strong.

Oh it's still there. I don't think I have to worry about "going down the drain" right now though! Water is very low....

Made it up to Manns Creek Res for the second time this week. The trout fishing has really been going strong!
I've been getting them between 13-18" both trips, though Monday (or was it tuesday?) I did snag one planter size trout.
Water is hovering at 74-75. Boat launches are still in the water.
Today the wind really picked up while I was out in the middle, on my pontoon. Still don't have a motor. Took me 90 minutes of constant kicking to get back to my truck LoL! Snagged my last one on the way back. And in the time it took me to net him & bag him, I think I lost 20 yards. Kind of like trying to pat your head and rub your belly, while riding a unicycle [shocked]
My legs are jello, and I'm pretty sure the couch is rocking on waves.
Gonna hit it again in the morning, there's a "youth group camp" scheduled to be on the west shore for the weekend, so it may get busy on the water.
(I know most people on here are no where near Weiser, but just in case...)

man I miss it there I grew up in Payette so im no stranger to Manns Creek and Brownlee. Used to shoot my deer every single year up on top of the 4th. As far as motors I see used trolling motors on craigslist allll the time if your looking for a decent but inexpensive motor.
[signature]
Hey, yep I see those motors too. But I pretty much wiped out my "fun money" for a while.
My belt tells me I need the exercise anyway
Had another great morning up there. Caught my limit in about 2 hours. I missed the hookset on a couple of big'uns though, somehow the big ones have been spitting my #4 circle hooks left & right. Gonna try some different hooks next time I go. Maybe some good ol' fashion baitholders....

Glad you survived your scare! So, is the dock still in the water?

Yes, but I'm not sure for how much longer.
It's been dropping pretty quick, and I usually launch from the smaller ramp on the west side- it's a little closer to where I like to fish, and gets less use so I can take my time

thanks for the info. Keep hammerin' em over there! Mike

Sounds like fun thanks for the report. Have driven by hunting but never fished it. Have to do some elk scounting up there this summer for my wife's cow tag.
Wonder if my kids could catch any fish from shore?
[signature]
From what I've been hearing, shore fishing is pretty weak.
If you do, best place is just north of the dam, but it's a steep rocky spot. Depending on your kids' ages, it might not be a good place to go.
Another place to try would be around the point from the main boat ramp.

Thanks for the info. Might just scout then and head elsewhere for fishing.
Good luck when you get out there again.

Good report. Thanks.
I do love a good motor, but oars can be a real leg and life saver in the wind too. Not as easy to fish with though.
[signature]
Yep, I agree on the oars thing. I had stopped taking them, since I usually use my fins. Needless to say I've started taking the oars again LoL!
Another great morning up there, caught my limit in a few hours. Talked to 2 boaters, one caught 2 fish, the other caught one. Made me feel pretty good in my lil ol' pontoon boat!
Watching S.A.R. search for the missing child was rather sobering though

So I decided to cull any that were even a little small today.
I released 2.
The ruler in the pic is 15". Biggest was 17".
The main ramp is still wet, the west ramp is dry.
While I was cleaning them, I noticed one was missing his belly fins:
I checked him to see what he had been munching on, I found a bunch of snails, and these two (crappie? LMB?):

very nice! those crappie are about the size of the cj crappie !

[shocked] Yikes!
I thought about keeping them for bait. But I bought a couple of Rapala's that look like that instead. Just a teeny bit bigger than the real thing, but they should work just fine!

Hit the lake again this morning - turned out to be a popular idea. There were more people out today than there usually is on saturdays.
Bit was really slow, nailed a good one right off at 7 am, then I spent 4 hours paddling around getting a few nibbles, threw back a few little trout. 'Bout 11 it picked up. WAY up. I had fish on as soon as I got the hook in the water. Of course that signaled everyone on the lake to come over and start crowding me. I still bested everyone I saw though! Rounded out the morning with a total of 12 fun trout, and one something-or-another. Never saw it. He grabbed my hook, wiggled a bit, then stripped off about 20 yds of line like it was nothing, before he spit the hook.
