I've been trying too get my new heavy duty rod and reel working correctly. But this one river is pissing me off. The swift current and the hole im trying too get in is across the river and ive tryed at multiple angles. When i start reeling in my slack too tighten my line before i get it tight the current either snaggs my slack or the sinker starts pulling too me before the line gets tight. Im using 55 lb berkley gorilla braid with 4 oz pyrimid and no rolls and its same thing. For this big of a setup should i bump up too like 7-8oz sinkers? maybe this will let me get completely tight and keep the current off my mainline?? Using a big okuma baitfeeder abf 65 and a 7ft ugly stik tiger with the gorrilla braid and 4 oz sinkers.
This is for tightline catfishing by the way, PLZ some help.

No one had problems with mainline passing up sinker and cant tighten mainline, super swift current.

Sounds like you have to up the weight on the sinker. Pyramid is the way to go.

there is another style of sinker you can use, it is triangle in shape, it is hallow, it has six prongs that grip in to the bottom, they will get stuck vary easy.
I will try to post a pic tomarow.
the best way to get your line to stay in the hole is to be up river at no grater than a 45 degree angle. the less the angle the better and smaller sinker you will need to remain in the hole.

as promiced and sorry it took so long,
here is a few style of sinkers that will help hold fast to the bottom of the river,
note how ever if you are fishing in rocky areas these types will catch in them and you will break your line. so be sure to use a drop line and your leader line is of lesser strenth.

If you need more weight and are in a rocky area I learned a trick from the fellows. You take hollow nylon rope, like parachute cord, cut lengths of 4 to 6 inches and use a flame (lighter, candle, etc.) to seal one end and fill with as many steel shot or ball bearings as needed then heat-seal the other end and attach a clip or ring to one end. This sinker is inexpensive to make and it can weigh as much as you would like and it bounces over rock like a charm.
