I would sure like to know a good place to try my hand at trapping a mess of crayfish around Idaho Falls.
I am going to go check out the pond at Shelly, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know that side of the state very well, but over on the west side, pretty much any river with a rocky bottom is a good place. I used to catch a lot in the Payette river. I'd sure think that anywhere on the main snake that has a rocky bottom would be a good place. I also know that there are a quite a few in Ririe. Never fished it, but there were quite a few folks on here talking about it some time back.

I'll also chime in for Ririe. I've heard of several spots along the snake between I.F. and American Falls, but have confirmed none of them. I'm not sure on Shelly pond. There are some spots that look promising, but I've never seen them there. That being said I've never looked for them there either though.

Go to the upper end of Ririe Reservoir named Blacktail. You turn on Lincoln Avenue on the north side of the golf couse and go due east into the mountains and follow the road to the upper end of the Reservoir. On weekdays there is a $3.00 entrance fee to the park and boat docks area. On weekends and holidays it is $5.00 fee. Walk to the end of the boat docks to the deep water. Drop a hook with two full strips or slices of uncooked bacon straight to the bottom. Wait three or four minutes and then slowing HAND LINE not REEL up your line. Have a net waiting to scoop up the crayfish hanging onto the bacon. About 50 to 60% of the crayfish will let go before you get them near the surface but it works great for catching them when they hang on. Good luck.
