Guys,
I bought a new boat and will be headed up to northern Idaho in a month or so to pick it up after the build. I plan to chase some steelies up there that weekend. Is there a temporary registration you can get with a new boat, or is it possible to pre-register the boat if you have the Manufacture's Statement of Origin and VIN?
Cheers

With that information I'm sure you can.
Oh by the way congratulations on the new boat. Show us a picture when you get it.

It might be possible with a new boat, but I remember when I registered a used boat last summer they came outside and visually inspected the vin #s on the boat and trailer.

just get the title for it and you can pre-register the boat, I have never taken a boat in too be inspected just take the title and what you paid for it so they can tax you and they will provide the registration info right there....

I forgot that I needed to get a title for the boat. That was probably why they needed the boat to be there. I know I was happy for the excuse to bring the boat by work to show it off though!

In Idaho, boats are not titled, only the trailer.

That was the case in the '80s when the previous owner originally purchased the boat, and the reason he didn't have a title to give me. I needed to get one to register as the second owner however. I have titles to both my 2006 drift boat and now the older runabout. Maybe someone else can clarify.

We bought a boat in Idaho last summer. The boat does have a title, in addition, the trailer must be licensed.
All trailers are licensed in Idaho.
In Utah, if the motor is under 25 hp you just license the boat. If bigger, you license the motor and boat.

I am the third owner of my boat and purchased it from willard Utah. There was no title when purchased as it is from 1978 and according the the DMV in bannock county only a bill of sale is required to license the boat and trailer. Regardless of engine output. Mine has a 140horse inboard. But no title was needed for me to registure it in bannock county.

Not sure about Id - but you got the link to the fax.
Utah - in my experience - with a used boat - needed a bill-of-sale and the VIN number. They didn't look at the actual boat.
Didn't see a difference in the process, just the price - in registering a small boat, 10hp - vs one larger with a 65hp. Except - I think it's over 50 - you need insurance.
No registering the trailer in Utah, unless you have two axles - I think that's the jump.
Good luck!
