I live in Lewiston and am interested in catching some steelhead this year. I know that it is only catch and release above Memorial Bridge until October.
The counts are not very high yet over lower granite because the water is too warm, but once they start flooding over I'm headed out to test my luck.
I'm stuck on the bank and would like to know if anyone knows of any spots or techniques they have that land fish, if you don't mind sharing. Any intel on bank spots on the Clearwater would be apperciated.

Go down and see Stew at the rivers edge tackle shop and buy some floats and shrimp and head down to the port district or anywhere you feel like fishing off the levee right in town if you want to try your hand fishing for keepers before the Oct 15th opener. Otherwise I would advise you to learn how to swing spoons........ not cast and retrieve spoons but SWING them. Bill Herzog has a great book on spoon fishing. Once you get geared up fish the same water all the spey guys will be fishing, trust me you will see them out there. Don't low hole em just enter the top of the run and cast, take two steps down, and cast again. This is standard procedure when working the run with the spey guys. Prepare to get some dirty looks because if you get halfway decent at this technique you'll be cleaning up plenty of fish behind them.[reply][/reply]

Hi
Bobbers and jigs with shrimp is probable the easiest method to start steelheading. It also catches fish. I would go to any tackle shop in town and ask. They will set you up with what you need. You could all so look on YouTube lots of videos there on the subject.
OK spots. Start at the train bridge on the sewer treatment plant side vary popular spot for that method talk with the guys there about other spots on up the river and how to go about it.You mite even run in to me there on the point (my favorite spot ) there. they wont bite well not hard any way LOL. After Oct. 15 you will most likely fined me at the slab at the water treatment plant another popular spot.
if you need more information shoot me a pm and Ill try to answer your questions.
hope this helps
