How many of you remember pictures of Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone Natl. Park on opening day when fishing from it was legal? The bridge over the outlet gates at UL just west of the pump house kinda reminded me of that scene this afternoon. Everybody was hauling out the whities. We finally got a chance to get in on the action and had a ball just like everyone else. We spent about an hour and brought home 20 between the three of us. Best time of all was watching my neighbors 2 yr old son cranking in some of the whities and some 4 - 6 in. bullheads. The kid is already hooked. Much fun.

was there any size to them Tom? Dont see people fishing off the bridge that often, I see a lot on the outlet side. Its a long lift from the water on the inlet side. Glad ya played with a few and always fun to see a young un catching fish.

sounds like a lot of fun! so do you just park in the parking lot just east of the outlet? sorry i have never been there so i am just trying to figure out the best way to get there. and this spot would still be under utah lake regulations correct? and this is a public spot to fish? sorry for so many questions. i am totally new to utah lake fishing.

the parking lot is just west of the outlet gates, yes it falls under U.L regs and it is open to the public The place gets a lot of pressure as Tom mentioned. It is usually a great spot for white bass if you can handle the combat fishing but be prepared for a crowd and some folks are not very polite.

thanks for the info

[#0000ff]No "dumbing" involved. When I put together one of my guide maps I try to include all the info someone might be looking for. Different things for different folks. I approach it from the perspective of what I would be looking for when "tackling" a new spot.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]That is a great area with lots of different fishy habitat. It changes throughout the year but there is almost always something to make it worth a stop. Just gotta know the access points and how to fish them. The R & D is the fun part.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As GEEZER has suggested, it is not usually a good place to go for solitude. On some trips you will be sharing your area with bunches of your new best friends and may have to bring your own rock to stand on. When the fish are in the word gets out and the "happy harvesters" come rolling in.[/#0000ff]

Would it be better to fish the river side of the gates or the outlet side in my kayak if I were to go this Saturday?
[signature]
I would try the lake side of the gates if you have a kayak,
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]With the lake being as low as it is I can't be very optimistic about your chances on the lake side. It can be very good when the lake is full and there is good depth but it is shallow and snaggy with the water level down. There are a couple of openings in the shoreline reeds where you can launch your yak so you might want to give it a try anyway.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The white bass are below the spillway because of the flow and the oxygenation. No reason for them to congregate above the control gates.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Another option you might try is launching above the gates and then paddling around to the mouth of the Jordan River and fishing in that channel. It is not far and should be a short paddle in a kayak. The channel is a lot deeper and the fish often stack up in there without nearly as much pressure from anglers. It takes more effort to walk over there so not as much attention. It can be very good once you find where the fish are holding.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Make sure you watch the weather if you venture out into the main lake for the trip around the corner. If the south winds come up you will have an adventure getting back.[/#0000ff]
