Are you asking about the whole thing you copy and pasted? or just the red at the bottom?

If it is the regulation in red, Then no it is not new. I am pretty sure everything on there is old, the only new regulation that might come soon that I know of is a boundary change on the outlet, nothing else has been proposed or adopted yet.
[signature]
I didn't see anything unfamiliar in there. I think it's been that way for a while, except for the season dates, which you already know are relatively new. What portion specifically are you refering to?
[signature]
The season was updated last year, if you are referring to Staley Springs and Hatchery Creek it has been like that for years to protect the spawners and fish during the summer that hang in those areas because of the cool water and can be easily overharvested.
[signature]
I was referring to the RED. You have to QUIT fishing after you keep your two fish. Other lakes you may continue to C&R after you bag a limit.
I agree, this is how it should be.
This is Catch your limit and leave the lake to consume before you can come back....to fish at any rate.[Wink]
[signature]
Yeah that has been around for a while. I agree with you and with that law. In Pennsylvania when I was a kid, the limit was 5. I would keep my first 4, and then keep releasing the 5th until I was ready to leave. The I would keep the last fish before leaving. Thats the way it should be.
[signature]
That red parts been there for as long as I can remember...... as it should be. I think the only reason they allow 2 is so: 1- you can keep a trophy if want and not stop that day or the following days (it is a possession limit, not a daily limit), or 2- so that if you foul hook or accidentally kill something, you can accept it as part of your limit and not have to stop.
[signature]
Yeah its been that way for the last few years. Nothing new.
[signature]
That is one of the reasons I fish Island Park a lot more than I do Henry's . I can't tell you how many times I have left with one fish , because I then keep letting the second one go until I get ready to leave and can't catch that last one .

All the lakes in Idaho are the same as far as stopping fishing for a targeted fish when the limit is complete. Now a lot of lakes have separate limits for Kokanee and Brook Trout which takes the pressure off of limiting on a single specie.
[signature]
I see that. I think Utah says you can continue, just can't keep, which is kind of dumb. Like mentioned, gut hook a fish.
Thanks for the answers. Now while on the subject

"Bag Limit: maximum number of fish that may be legally
harvested by any one person in [#ff4040][/#ff4040]one day. The term “bag limit”
shall be construed to be an individual, independent effort and
shall not be interpreted in any manner as to allow one individual
to take more fish than their “bag limit” toward filling the “bag
limit” of another. The bag and possession limits are equal,
except where listed and for salmon and steelhead."

So, does this mean you are done for the day? I always thought Idaho was catch limit, take it home, go do it again. At least that is how I perceived it.

I would say that it clearly says yes, its a day limit. Or at least that's how I interpret it. I know that a lot of people treat it like it is a catch limit, but it definitely is not.

Is this applicable to all lakes/rivers bag limits? I think Chesterfield has a limit of 2 fish but not sure if you must quit after 2 as well.

This was brought up before, and if I remember right, in Idaho, you can catch you limit, take it home, once in your home, you may go back and do it again. In other words, you can freeze it, can it, bottle it. Utah doesn't have that. The limit is the limit till consumed.

Match, I was wondering the same thing, but I am not reading anything that says you can continue. But it is Henry's that points out you are done once limit is caught, not a general rule.

This coming from the general regulations definitions section............

Possession Limit: Maximum number of fish that may be
legally in possession of any person. Possession limit shall
apply to fish while in the field or being transported to the final
place of consumption or storage. All fish that are hooked,
landed, and not immediately released shall be counted in the
possession limit of the person hooking the fish. [#ff0000]The bag and
possession limits are equal, except where listed and for salmon
and steelhead.

To me, this clearly states that you can only keep your limit one time a day. Which is what MMDon was saying also. You can can it, freeze it, throw it out, feed it to your cat, whatever you want to do with it, but if you caught it that day, legally you are done for the day.

Having talked w/ F&G officers in the past about this question they have all, so far, agreed that if you catch your limit for they day and then take it to "final place of consumption", including eating it, you are still done for the day. If they then catch you fishing again they can cite you for it. I figure it would be hard to prove the issue, but it's still the law.

We too understand what we read, really[Wink]
Idaho does not seem to offer PDF's of older Procs on line.
I have never noticed the wording "one day" before. We have had this discusion manhy times here, but those two words were never brought up.
I was just wondering if it was a new clarification thing is all.
