Man that is a disappointing picture to see. I wish they would be more proactive about communicating with farmers and fishermen about water levels. It's depressing to see a really solid reservoir get run down like that and especially the number of dead fish in that last pic. Man...

It is a
thing to see, but we need to remember that most of the reservoirs are built for irrigating land. Fishing is just a perk that comes with it.

True, but I see this as more of a political ploy from those d bags at the Twin Lakes Canal Company. If you look at reservoirs that they don't own, they have
way more water. It seems a little convenient that this would happen right after their stupid damned Narrows dam got shot down again. They did the same thing with Winder the last time there was a low water year. They're trying to show how much they
need the dam. I wish they would learn that this just pisses people off and makes them not want to help them even more. I will definitely not be going to Twin Lakes during the pay season, that's for sure.

Well, I've been calling them trying to tell them what's going on for a while now, but they don't seem that concerned. The first guy I talked to assured me that they weren't expecting any reservoirs to go to salvage this year. Well, had they looked at it recently? I told him how much water was left, and how much it had dropped in a week, and he didn't seem to care. Next I left a voicemail for Dave Teuscher. He did get back to me several days later, but I missed his call. He didn't seem to have any idea how bad it was there. He said he would be back in the office tomorrow, so I guess I'll call him and fill him in on what the canal company did.
Condie was without a doubt the best bass fishery we had. It's not like they can just restock it next year and everything will be like new. It's dead and will suck for a long time. It's a good thing I don't know where the guy who owns the canal company lives because I may very well end up in jail [mad] I have had it with those a holes.

I agree with the first point. but greg i'm sorry but i disagree with yours. We are in possible the hottest and possible the driest summer on record. Certanly in my lifetime. if you look at the outher resivors they are a on a constent flow. glendale-foster, johnson-lamont. They both have creeks that flow freely no matter the lvl. Twin lakes company gets its water from Mink creek. Which after it gets below a certain lvl the inflow is cut off. if you think this is a ploy go ask the farmers what water they are getting... I think its a joke to try to blame this on the fish and game or the canal company. we had little or no winter followed by scorching temps, I get my water from foster... and trust me there are plenty of farmers in my area who arnt getting there water as well.... Like was said above pray for water....
Sorry but i have to say it. but I dont like how the southerners complain about how these resivores drain there water but allow there rivers to go dry for farmers. Go to nible and try to find the river. then follow it up.... its all getting sprinkled.... sorry but i have lived down there... fix utah before your fix idaho....

I'm sorry Pharticus... but no your money pays for the right to fish. not the fish, and if you feel your right to fish is worth more than the land owners and the ppl who built these resivores... then im sorry to say this but dont buy lisence next year.... If they had drained the resivores on a normal year then i would agree... but a year like this... there are ppl who are probly going to loose a whole lot more money than there 100 bucks for a license... I hate to see these fish die but this is a joke... If your research how these damns were built and why they were built, there was no thought of fish this came from the fish and game and was agreed that the farmers were first.

I am not negating the farmers' needs. Not by any stretch. Rather, I am saying that it is a shame that the MAJOR investment those fish represent isn't sufficient to justify some sort of reclamation effort.

So we pay for the right to fish empty lakes. What a deal. I agree, Utah is pretty good at raping the land too. It doesn't make it right though. Even if this is just a matter of the drought and nothing more, I was under the impression that the canal company was supposed to at least let the F&G know when they were going to drain one of the reservoirs so that they could attempt a salvage. Much like last time, it doesn't seem like they did.
And this isn't a matter of being out my $100. It's a matter of losing the best fishery in the area. Thinking about Condie in the spring helped get me through the long winters up here. Going there to ease some stress helped me get A's in school. Condie gave me something to look forward to when work, school and everything else was bearing down on me. It gave me a reprieve from all the crap in life, and now it's dead. It won't be back until I'm in my 40s. That depresses me. Well, if nothing else, Idaho still offers me good beer to drown my sorrows in [:p]

I have to agree with Jigs. The water flows out of Bear Lake country and runs into Utah. Land owners Rule. I guess we could get The Native Americans involved? Why not? Idaho Fishing Game is a JOKE! Show me different...

i live on the other side of the state but feel your pain. in the 70's and 80's i fished paddock res. and slayed 12-13" crappie and caught literaly hundreds of bass a day, granted most were 11 7/8" but i also caught lots of five, six, seven and one 8.8 lb. bass. and then it was drained dry on several occasions for the reasons mentioned to condie.
my take if these lakes had one westslope cutthroat , one steel head or salmon smolt , they would truck water in to save them. they care not about bass, or crappie ect. it's a darn shame......[:/]

Just spoke with IDFG again David is still out of office. They seem to think the fish are.going to.do just fine in condie? I told him that the water is to far gone to support habitat, they didnt seem very concerned about it at all. I give up on IDFG

I didn't mention it in the original post - that pic of all the dead bass, was not the the only dead fish!!!! They were strewn all along the entire length of the ditch!!!! The ditch still had about 2-4 in. of stagnant water.
