The Jason Christie Frog Rod has already won one major. Will it win the BASS Classic, too?

Split grips and micro guides reign with four more bass-technical designs. Falcon's 2013 line also includes 17 all-new LowRider Salt rods for inshore fishing.

BROKEN ARROW, OK - For 2013 Falcon Rods has unveiled five new tournament-inspired bass rods including a new micro-guide rod for fishing buzzbaits and big crankbaits and the Jason Christie Frog Rod that the Oklahoma pro says helped him win one major and will give him an edge in the 2013 Bassmaster Classic.

Falcon also announced three BuCoo Micro models - Trap Spin, Medium Gulf Spin, and Rig Rod II - all with split-grip foam handles, exposed blanks for more bite sensitivity, and 10 Fuji Micro guides that dampen line vibration for longer casts and more bite sensitivity.

Christie said he collaborated with Falcon Rods to design the one-handed frog rod. He said it is lighter, shorter and more versatile than competitive "broom sticks" which usually require two-handed casting. The new Jason Christie Frog Rod -- model CC-7-1611S -- joins the Falcon Cara T7 series of 17 technical casting rods and six Cara T7 spinning rods. He said the rod is beefy enough to work weedless frog and other creature lures in heavily-matted vegetation all day but is also "just right" for five or six other techniques like accurately placing lures under limbs and docks. "I just won an event in the Detroit River (Bass Pro Shops Northern Open) throwing this rod," Christie said.

Christie, who hails from Park Hill, Okla., said he looks forward to fishing with the new Jason Christie Frog Rod during the 2013 Bassmaster Classic on his home waters of Grand Lake, near Tulsa, Feb. 22-24, 2013.

Chris Beckwith, president of Falcon Rods, said Christie and other Falcon tournament pros also gave the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma company strategic input on other technique rods like the new Falcon Cara Micro CCM-5-17MH for casting and retrieving heavy buzzbaits and big, deep-diving crankbaits. Features on this new rod include split-grip cork handles, an exposed blank, and 12 Fuji Micro corrosion-resistant guides with highly polished Alconite inserts for longer casts and superior line-to-rod-to-hand signal sensitivity.

"Falcon Cara Micro is the new standard for tournament rods," said Beckwith. "More rod guides mean less line flutter so casts are much longer. More guides mean more points of contact and therefore more bite and structure feel." He said the diamond-polished ring inserts are smoother than Hardloy inserts, lighter than SiC (silicone carbide) inserts, and also prevent ring grooving when fighting heavy fish with small-diameter braided lines.

The expanded and popular BuCoo series, also heavily-influenced by pro staff design input, will now include three more BuCoo Micro rods featuring 10 Fuji Micro low-to-the-blank guides for longer and more accurate casts and more retrieve and bite sensitivity.

"¢ BuCoo Micro Trap Spin - BMS-7MH- is a 7-foot spinning rod with medium heavy action and a medium fast tip flex designed for long distance casting and retrieving big top water and floater-diver lures.

"¢ BuCoo Micro Medium Gulf Spin - BMS-76M - is a 7-foot, 6-inch spinning rod with the right action to cast most lures long distances and, with 11 micro guides, it maintains blank-to-hand contact with the lure.
"¢ BuCoo Micro Rig Rod II - BMC-76XH - is a 7-foot, 6-inch casting rod that throws heavy lures with heavy line and has plenty of backbone to bring lunkers to the boat. And, with micro-guide sensitivity (13 micro-guides), it transmits light bites and structural signals to the angler.

"Our BuCoo series is turning out to be one of the most successful lines of Falcon rods ever," said Beckwith. "These rods offer almost all of the features of the top of the line Cara Micro rods but at a very affordable, made-in-the-USA price."

Salt action, too, for 2013
Falcon earned its wings in the bass market but in recent years the company has applied its technical rod savvy for saltwater anglers. For 2013, at the annual industry ICAST trade show in Orlando Falcon introduced an all-new American-made rod series -- LowRider Salt.

LowRider Salt rods have superior guide-to-blank sensitivity for positive hook-sets and guides that dampen line vibration for longer casts to spooky gamefish in clear inshore waters. LowRider Salt rods share many of the features as their freshwater counterparts - LowRider XG - but the saltwater rods have low profile, corrosion-resistant guides with wider inserts to accommodate leader knots. The rods are designed to cast the lures and tame the fighting spirit of saltwater gamefish like tarpon, redfish, snook, bluefish, jack crevalle, speckled trout, flounder and striped bass.

Falcon's 2013 catalog has detailed information on the entire portfolio of casting and spinning rod models - Cara Micro, Cara T7,Cara Peacock Bass, Mike McClelland Cara Micro Casting, BuCoo and BuCoo Micro, Original, HD, Coastal, and LowRider XG and LowRider Salt. The Falcon Rod product portfolio also includes two spinning reel series - Volt and Moxie - featuring multiple ball bearings for smooth operation and Falcon's Cross Matchâ„¢ line system to help eliminate braided line loops.
