Went out on Wednesday to take a look. Hiked around the whole lake... er, puddle.
Not a strike, not a sign of fish (beyond the pelicans scouring it). Well, actually I found lots of fish. Just not IN the lake. But more on that later.
Did find some other gear, however:

Here's a video I took of the spillway's unceremonious mass grave.
(Note: sorry the film is so unsteady.)

And here's a video of what the lake looks like right now...
(Friggin' video link isn't working, so here you go

I was mourning all day. What a shame and a loss. Oughta be criminal!
Second video didn't seem to load. Was wondering if you'd post those. Quite the documentary expose!
So quite a collection of goodies showing up there. Dig the kiddie pole! Did you collect any of those treasures? I could use a spare anchor!
So I was chattin with a Utah DNR rep today, and he seemed to think Newton didn't have a level fill limit, so much as time. That there's a calendar cutoff for drawing down. Couldn't get any more news on the launch ramp repairs, other than they are supposed to be doing it while the water is down, so - um, yeah - I think we're there!
I was told they've stopped drawing out from Hyrum. But I don't think it's at risk of drying up like SOME lakes!
That's some pretty disturbing footage. How was the smell?

Smell was as you'd expect. Lucky for me, I have almost no sense of smell anymore, so while it DID register, it's an easy enough thing for me to ignore it.
I fished the spillway and caught a few bass further down where the canal was actually flowing, and even saw some flat-out BIG bluegill... but their days are numbered, aren't they?
This whole 'circle of life's gig sucks. Not only did last winter's lack of snow decimate my snow-removal income... it's STILL taking it's toll on my second favorite pass-time.

I took home the green anchor and the lightweight-style one.

The pessimist in me assumes it ain't happening.

I didnt look at all the pictures but I scene my ore in the second pic did you happen to.find a matching one? I lost both of my ores about 2 years did you pick them up or are they still there? There black plastic ores about 3 feet in length.maybe 4 feet at the most.

Only saw the one, and left it there.
It was on the last point sticking out into the water on the northwest side of the lake, as you come around the bend to the dam.
I suspected it was yours, based on a comment you made earlier, but given my tackle, my 4 poles, and my feet caked in sixty pounds of nasty muck, I wasn't in a position to collect all those goodies and bring them to the ramp - sorry.

Sweet guess I better make another trip and see if I can find them both. Thanks

There were some gargantuan gills in there. They looked like plates. I also nabbed a 14" perch there dropshotting for bass last year. I guess that won't likely happen again anytime soon.

The canal is not protected by the 20 inch limit, so if there are still bass and other fish alive they would be subject to the regular limits only. Can't say as I would want to fish in there right now though!
It is a shame that this happens just about every year on the canals. There is a lot to be said for fish traps and screens.
