I have jumped head first into a fishing boat modification project which I figure will take about two years. It is an aluminum boat that is about 18+ feet long, built like a brick outhouse, and needing a lot of work. I'll be welding a new transom on it and a few patches on the bow and some reinforcement on the keel. I would like to go with a diesel 4 or 6 cyl engine if I can connect it to a jet pump for river and lake use. I dont know a whole lot about jet pumps but am doing some research on it. I need to know about boat layout though. I like open spaces without the clutter so I want to configure this boat to be the most fisherman friendly with lots of room and minimal stuff in the way. What are some of your thoughts on boat layout that made it easy access to the water and gear storage. What are your thoughts on center consoles as well. Pros, Cons?

Well it's quite a project you are undertaking and I hope you will keep us updated with pictures as you go. As for an uncluttered fishing space, check out the center console boats and see if they would work for your intents. I've looked at them and they seem they would work perfect for 2 guys, more than that, seating is pretty limited. But give it a thought.
