Spent Labor Day weekend camping at Bruneau with the family and some friends. While there I had my first opportunity to try float tube fishing in the pond behind the observatory. I enjoyed it, took some time to figure out how to steer but I got the hang of it after about 15 minutes. First day I caught 14 bass in about 3 hours, using a floating Rapala and later a green spinner. Now the pond is pretty much choked with weeds, we had to kick around and find the spots with enough water to keep from getting snagged every cast. My buddy caught 21, none of us had any big enough to keep (20 inches). Fishing was best in the morning, it slowed down after 11. Second day I caught 6 in about 1.5 hours but my buddy got skunked due to bad karma from criticizing my fishing skills the previous night around the campfire. Alcohol may have been involved.

We also took the kids to the dock to fish for Bluegill. With the weeds so bad it was hard to find an open spot but my daughter managed to catch 7 and I caught 2, all on worms. The other 3 kids got skunked. Some ladies on the end of the dock were able to cast out to an open spot and they were catching quite a few, I think they were using worms and marshmallow with a bobber.

Overall a really nice trip, kids also had a blast rolling down and running up the dunes. Also one of the few places in the state you can have a campfire right now.

Nice. I always wanted to stop in there and look, but ended up at Strike every time.

I've got several hundred-thousand acres of campfires right around here now.

Glad you had a good time! Were the bluegills dinks? Mike

Yes, the ones my daughter and I caught were pretty small. But there are some good sized ones in there, we've caught them before when the weeds were not as bad.
