Does anyone have any luck fishing Black Canyon? If so, what fish have you had the best luck catching. I have been up there 3 times recently and came home empty handed each trip. Its not far from my place and I would love a close fishing hole to get my fix. I heard there were good bass and catfish, so far only thing I have found is carp....

Never been a big fan of Black Canyon but I've caught some fish there. I think the river below the dam is a better bet. However, early spring when I have the bug to get out I seem to get over there once or twice. I go for the bullheads, not in the main lake, in the ponds on the north side of the hwy. Always good for a bucket of fish for the smoker.

I know this discussion has come up before but make sure to specify which Black Canyon. There are several in the state. I have fished the one near Grace.

My coworker fish the Reservoir twice last weekend, he said he caught a dozen smallmouth both days from a boat. 12-14 inch range. He said he was using a white small jig.
I have not fished the river this year below the Dam, but when I have in the past, I ripped a lipless crankbait crawdad color or 3 inch brown curled tail grub on a lead headed jig. Either cranked it or jigged it, caught most fish where the pool starts to narrow down before it makes the first drop heading down river. You have walk through the brush right there. And almost always the fish would hit pretty close to the shore, not way out in the middle.

If your available I'm off this next friday the 14th. We could go below the Dam and hit the river for a short bit, then go up to lake and use my boat and check it out.

I've always have had good luck from a boat up where the current dumps in along the shoreline with a tube bait or a fluke for bass. You do have to watch for the sand bars as they can stop a boat on a dime and give change. They also move around from year to year. I'll admit I haven't fished it for a few years since I no longer tourney fish.

Alas, I know nothing about willow creek. I'm an Alaskan girl transplant, trying to figure out these waters.[blush]
