I went out today. I checked out the salmon running up the river. I was going to fish the area where the river goes into porcupine, but I didn't want to foul hook a red by mistake. I decided to hit the river below the damn. They trout didn't like much of what I was throwing with my fly rod. I did catch a skinny 13 inch skinny, but colorful rainbow on a panther martin. I would say the fishing is very slow.

Kewl pics there. Been more than a decade since I've been up to see the spawn run. Nice shots.
I know we'd reviewed the regs on the lake, but I think it includes the river as pretty much off limits during the "outage". So when my boy wanted to jump in or net some of the reds - it was off limits! He's still freaked out about the drive out there.
Good to hear they've got enough water to make it up the river.
So by little Bear- did you fish below the dam to? Never have tried that, though it's looked appealing. Guess I'd have to put away the worms though!
Where exactly were those pics of the salmon taken? Were they just above the reservoir? I have been wanting to take my kids up there to see the salmon this time of year. PM if you want. I am not looking for a fishing spot. I think that inlet is closed right now to fishing. I just want to take the family up and snap some pictures.

Just take the road all the way to the boy scout camp. Walk down to the river and they are everywhere. you can even park where the river comes into the lake and walk up that muddy mess and you'll see them.

I did fish below it. It is a good looking little river. The fishing was slow. It might be a lot better when the water cools a little bit.

Ha - busted. It was late, I didn't have my glasses on. . .
you got yer answer there Ben. The road is narrow and windy, one-way at times. But you can drive all the way to the end - there's a gate, and some parking area. You can walk down to the river inlet from there.
I think the land above is considered private and held by LDS scout camps, but far as I know - it's ok to walk up there. We went up a ways, and the river was just aglow. Went as far as a bridge that crosses the river, and it was very entertaining so see all the fish jostling for territory. Hump-backs, yellow, red - hookjaws. I recall the fall colors were on, as the fish colors were too. Thing was - the narrow steep road, passing cars with the steep dropoff freaked out my boy (when he was 6) and he's been deathly ill of going there again.
Hmm - maybe my dog needs a walk!
Those are way cool pictures. Ive never been up there to look at the spawn, thanks for reminding me i'll have to try to make it

Thanks! Went up there Sunday with the kids to check it out. Never seen that place so low. But then again, I haven't seen anything around here this low.
