Started off the day at Lost Creek right at the crack o' dawn. It was cold. Finally, fall is here. I was getting hits with the marabou jig, but no hookups. I had to trim the tail to get one hook up:

That would be the first and last fish of Lost Creek. The usual size for that reservoir.

It started to get crowded, so I ditched LC for the Berry. Surprisingly, the crowds were almost non existent at the Berry. Weird.

I walked along the shoreline for quite awhile, with no bites at all. The berry is definitely a learning experience. I usually leave there skunked and Confused. On the way back to the car I stopped to sit down and enjoy the view. I fished a jig while staring into space, and I almost jumped into the water when I got a hit on the jig right next to shore. Straight to the bottom he went. Every time I'd get him close he would go back down. Finally pulled the Angry fish in:

Finally a fish bigger than 13 inches from the berry. Woohoo. This fish stunk, and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out, he was a little gassy from being stuffed to the gills with crayfish. Nasty smell. I actually left the Berry with a Smile this time.

Nice report and pics, what area were you fishing at Lost creek?

Thanks. I was fishing the steep side below the first parking area on the east side.

The reason I ask, the area in the back, near the boat ramp, usually is a good area for shore fishing. Either right before the the turn off to the boat ramp, it is kind of steep there or right after the ramp, it is flater there, very easy access.

Nice workin' the bou'! Is that a cutt or a 'bow? Probably a rainbow if it had the capability to pull.

good fish, thanks for sharing.

It was definitely a rainbow. It was just barely over 19 inches, but put up a really good fight. I think I am convinced of the powers of the marabou now, haha.

I've noticed that smell from a lot of the smallmouth I catch. I'm not sure what it is about them digesting crayfish over fish, but it's pretty nasty.
