It's been a while since I posted... but, I was thinking about fishing the Clearwater (up river from Lewiston) for B run Steelhead this year. I was going to fish the deeper holes with my boat. What are your thoughts regarding (historically) the time of year that the run is usually best or better? I appricate any advice, thanks!

Year to year, fishing is good from now thru feb-march.

The fish are in great shape now, but will progressively darken thru and up to March when they get to the point where the table quality is not that great but are still fun to catch.

This year, the returns look to be lower than in years past but there are fish to be caught.

Hi, Jetcrafter I just spent a week up there and caught 20 fish. Only 4 of those were B-run fish, but I lost a 20 pounder though. Half of the fish caught were Salmon. After Oct. 15th when all of the Clearwater opens the fish should be spread out up to the South fork of the Clearwater. As far as timing a trip look for consistent weather. A cold spell like last night can hurt fishing for awhile. Have you ever tried a pink worm? I heard about it and it works. I'm a newer member so I hope this helps.

Fishing has been hit and miss on the confluence in Lewiston / Idaho. The best fishing seems to be early morning (6:30-8:30), but anglers have been picking them up at night as well. There are definitely less fish than most years but the Clearwater is usually great from September through December. A ton of salmon are also being caught, so don't be surprised to get more of those (especially Jacks), than steelhead. The upper Clearwater is still a bit slow and will probably be that way until we get some rain... but when we do, look out! As far as planning a trip, watch the river flows and read the expert and angler reports.
Here is my latest report:
