My seven year old Nephew (Miles) came to see Uncle Rob this weekend. He said that all he wanted to do was "to go fishing for catfish." While at the TN Aquarium on Friday, he pointed out all the large catfish in the Nickajack tank and was very excited to see all the fish we might catch.

Now, being a fly tyer and bug slinger, I don't actually target catfish on purpose. So I called in a professional; Sam Simons.

Sam took us out and the final tally was 5 skipjacks, 5 white bass, several channel catfish, 5 or 6 blue catfish and I lost count on the bluegills. My Nephew had so much fun and now "wants to fish for nothing else but catfish from now on."

The Foley Spoon was used for the Skipjacks, live shad and chicken for the white bass and catfish and wax worms for the bream.

Sam put Miles on the fish and was so very patient with an excitable seven year old. He is already asking when he can go catfishing again.

Even Uncle Rob learned a thing or two. Believe it or not, I actually used a baitcasting reel that was returned to the owner in full working condition WITHOUT a massive bird's nest tangle!

Thanks Sam for a great trip!

-Rob
