Sorry no purdy pix to tell the story. It was getting dark, was too busy with hooks, bait, pitching - - - uh, yeah.
Went a bit farther north than usual, and fished along the roadside. Pitched some curly jigs, dropped some shot of worms off bottom, tossed some big bass plastics.
Hooked up with a burly dark SmallMouth - under footer, but fought like a champ (fricking cheater locked up behind a log-jam before I let him swim out, and gained ground).
Had a passive dropshot worm let out, while I pitched a plastic. Came back to find the rod hand changed angle - the rod holder hung on (good thing) while I reeled and reeled. Had the drag let so loose - this sucker had taken it for a long long journey! Managed to wrap over a branch in the venture, but I reeled, and pulled - till I got 'em in - a fat carp - probably 8lber - had nabbed my worm and ran downstream. Glad I got to keep my rod, the holder, and land the fat son of a . . .
Hooked into a small gill, but still didn't find any crappie. Another bass - this time a Largie - came to play. Decent, but still in the underfootclass. Seemed the theme for the day.
As sunset moved in, the kitties came on. Hooked up some niblet channels, followed by more and more. Haven't been on such a big school of little fish for quite some time.
Thought I'd nab a few for a small fish-fry. Fish fry of small fish - that is!
So - alas - no Walleye this time around, and didn't find the big-fat-channel I sure would have liked to find. But a non-stop peckering of punks was enjoyable all the same.
Maybe tomorrow I'll get the boat out, and bring the camera - and get on that river adventure that brings on the Big Bass, Walleye, and Crappie Galore! Maybe some Kitties too...
