I had some free time tuesday and was more than ready to go chase some crappie. I recently bought some of the black and white TVA maps and wanted to scout in a few places that I drive right over or past every trip. If anyone has a navionics platinum east map chip i would highly recomend doing the free update online. It added much more detail and it now shows road beds, creek channels, underwater bridges, and even docks now. It helps alot to be able to see how much waters under a dock without having to drive to it.
Anyway I got on the water around one and finished at 6. I found some nice looking road beds that appeared to have some fish on them, but it was much to windy to fish them in 25 fow. I moved to another area and began finding some brush piles right away. I ended up finding about 4 or 5 new off shore spots that all held crappie within 200 yards of each other!!.
Most of the spots were in 18-20fow, but one was in 13 and it seemed to hold better quality fish. I caught a ton of small fish today and they seemed to be schooled up by size.
The fish were at about an 8 count on the deeper stuff and a 6 count on the shallower brush. I fished with a 1/16oz jig w/ sickle hook and soddy tackle bobby garland imitation today and color didnt seem to matter. These plastics they make at soddy hold up great and catch fish. I caugh 20 straight on a single lure.
Ended around six with close to 50 crappie and about 20 keepers. It was a great day and Im already looking forward to next time. emoThumbsup emoThumbsup
