I'm pretty green when it comes to fishing and have some questions. I want to go back to simpler times and fish using bobbers and floats. I'll be fishing ponds, lakes and reservoirs from the bank. and need some advice and recommendations. Starting from scratch here and need everything rod, reel and tackle. What type rod and reel would be good for this type of fishing? What am I looking for in tackle. Are there any links, post or information that I can obtain to help me in the learning process.

When I first started getting my own setups, I started with a cheep telocopic rod and a medium priced open face spinning reel.
that was 30+ years ago, well I still have the three telocopic rods, with minor repairs and I have replaced the reels once on each. My rods cost me 2.30 each. today they run about 17.00+
I liked this setup because I can grab my box and go. and maybe pick up a can of worms.
as to lures, its to each his own boyz... but there are a few that are almost sure fire. mephs spinners, rooster tails, jitterbugs, rapellas. Start with the basic colors, red black brown yellow silver and white. you can go wattermellon if you like.
the same goes true with soft plastics as well. Just for starts. once you get going you will see what works best in your area.
this may help, this link is to my photo gallery showing some of my rigs for my various fishing styles. Fishing Rigs
