I hope everyone voted for the right person because we all know someone want's to quite the FEDERAL STUDENT AID PROGRAM NOTE NOTE. Let's hope it doesn't happen or the world will be in deep trouble. I wonder how many students have $60k + a year just to toss on the table for one year of college.

careful here, politics are usually frowned upon. but i will be the first to take the bait.... how will the world be in big trouble? you know there are other ways to earn money for school right?

Why pay for things when you can get somebody else to?

Ya I wonder how many college students have $60 k in there pockets just to put on the table and be in college let say slim chance that any student can do that even in this economy.
Here's another point ya there's scholarships out there but how's my people at fighting just to get one scholarship. Think of it this way 1/1000 or more students are applying just for that one specific scholarship?
Did you have the skills if you went back to college to even get a scholarship or some skills to be on a school sport team?
I even wonder if you actually know how hard it's to get into a good school and good education in this economy. It's not as easy now to get into college then in the past. The numbers of student that area in colleges are dropping because we don't have the money or that one scholarship.

I am looking forward to Kochanuts answer here.
I know I pay large sums of money to education on a daily basis, yet I have no children to benefit from it.

ok, easiest solution for you then, if you can not afford to go to college, but want money to go so its 100% paid for, join the military. they still offer the GI bill plus top up which takes care of everything. you also have a full time job, and make some ok money and you can contribute to something bigger then yourself sure there is some sacrafice, but nothing in this world is free... or should be free i meant.

GI BILL Pay it forward.

Lets see military hmmm. Go for 2 years and if I get shot and die I won't even get a chance in college. I'm totally going to sacrifice my life for college. Ha ha ha full time job for my age would take a long time just to get the money for 4-6 year of college. Why would I get full time job waste 5+ years then go to college when fasfa is an easier way too finish college. As well its proved its harder to get into college in your older age.
[signature]
ok lets take what you said and think about it for a minute.
1. get shot, well like i said nothing in this world should be free. besides, depending on what job you choose the chances of that are slim. there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of jobs available in the military. everything from being a cook, to communications, to broadcasting, being a cop, doing maintenance on aircraft or vehicles, use google and find out how many MOS's, AFSC's, etc that there are available.
***edit****
forgot to add this... who is to say you would even be called to go anywhere? I know people that have done one enlistment (4 years) and never deployed. it is alot more common then you think. it all depends on your job. lets say you want to do something in intel... you would be gone alot. what if you did something with communications, you likely would not be gone alot, but that all depends on the job you select.
******
2. go for 2 years... why go for 2? why not join the National Gaurd, or Reserves. One weekend a month, 2 weeks a year. You get to make a differance in your state when it needs you. the trianing oppertunities are out of this world.
3. Waste 5+ years with a full time job... really? i finished my BA and am working on my Masters currently. It only took me so long because i loved living in Japan, Germany, Korea, all over the world. When i finally bit the bullet to get it done i used something called the AU-ABC program. that got me a 4 year degree in 17 months.
I am not advocating that the military is the only choice, but it probably wont matter because you seem to have it stuck in your head there is no other way.
All i am trying to tell you is that there are literally hundreds of other ways you can get school taken care of without having someone else pay for it simply because you feel it is an entitlment due to you. if you want something bad enough you should be willing to put in all the hard work required to get it.

You have heard some good suggestions from kochanut. (I have a lot of respect for those in the military or who have served.) You could also get a student loan which is what I had to do.
You gotta realize that anything that is "Federally" funded is not paid for by the government. The government makes nothing. They provide no goods or services for which they are paid. Everything is paid for by the taxpayer. I believe that is what FG was hinting at.

So I too will bite on this, So I take it your post was about Mia Love who has stated she would cut all spending to Student Financial Aid and Pell Grants if she is elected.
I think Michelle Obama said it best : When you walk through the door of Success you don't slam the door shut behind you"
Mia Love being a immigrant from Hati used Student loans, Financial Aid and Pell Grants to get herself through college so I find it Hypocritical for her to take advantage of these programs then tell others there not welcome to it.
So I do agree with you on the point of Not cutting those programs. Thank god she was not elected

+1
Millatary should not be the only option. BTW we do have to pay back those loans in the long run anyway. With interest I might add!

Thats true to a certain extent, but once the student graduates he or she is responsible to pay the loan back + interest.
I dont have kids but the other angle of the issue is Parents. How many Parents do you know who have 100K saved for there kids to go to college. Its a combination of things parents pay some college tuition, student gets a loan to pay for the rest then pays it back + interest.
I dont see what the fuss is about its not like students are getting a free ride Ive worked with Dr's, Teachers's and Federal Agents who all have used Financial Aid and there better people for it.

Right. I paid back my loan + interest. My parents had nothing saved for me. I happened to have a private student loan. Not a federal one. We probably agree more than you or I realize. I do agree with kochanut in the fact that he is saying there are other ways to earn money for college. I'm hypersensitive to the whole entitlement thing. It infuriates me. My wife has a lot of family who live off the taxpayer and see nothing wrong with it.
[signature]
Oh sorry after rereading didn't mean it to sound like I was coming down on you
I was trying point out that these loans have to be paid back so not like free ride. Any how I hear ya on the whole entitlement thing im the same way.

Yeah I figured we agreed but communicating on a forum can be difficult (at least for me). It's all good.

I for one did 10 years in the military, I do have a friend who's dead from his enlistment. I don't see what the hell you're "ha ha ha" is all about. There is nothing funny. You are not owed a damn thing, if you don't want to chose to join the military that's fine, don't do it. Your choice in how you pay for college is your problem. You should be thankful to those Veterans you're Ha Ha Ha'ng about because thousands have been shot and died to provide all of us the quality of life we currently have. You are not owed college, go to work deal with life, get your hands out of my pocket to pay for your schooling. I am about sick of the entitled attitudes of today. YOU ARE OWED NOTHING FROM ANYONE. I joined the military, gee amazing how I earned money for college.
What does an election have to do with fishing anyways?

Okay talking about military know. Do you know how many veterans are out there with no job and government wont help them? Why are there many veterans are outside on the street asking for money.? Should military help them out for making the US a safe place or its just oh you server for use here you go? You don't matter anymore have fun on the streets. Ya that's totally a great thing to get into.

I've been on this sight for years, I happen to work a lot of hours so can't post that frequently. If you have so much time on your hands you could be working another job to help pay for school.
The VA does have programs to assist Veterans. A lot of people who claim to be Veterans are not. I am a Manufacturers Rep, I deal with people daily who claim to be Navy Seals, SF, Rangers ETC ETC. A lot of them were never even in the military, it's pathetic. Once you are in the military you certainly understand you will not get a pay check for the rest of your life because of it.
The military is very tough, you will work harder than you ever have before while in. It may be a good move for you, it will certainly teach you some discipline and understanding of what people around the world do daily to survive let alone what they would do to have the opportunity you have and are whining about.
I know what Off Topic threads are, how many political ones have you ever seen that don't get locked?
Lastly, the world needs dishwashers too and if you can't afford to pay for school somehow, don't think you are too good for that job. You aren't. Earn it, do it, become successful on your own.
