Made it up to the Lewiston area w/ some friends and family for our cast and blast weekend. Started fishing early Saturday morning. Weather was a bit breezy, but normal for SE Idaho. Scattered rain showers with overcast most the day. Water wasn't too murkey either. Over the course of the day we landed 4 steelhead and lost two others. May have had multiple other hits, but not on long enough to verify. Also landed about 6 or so white fish. This was my specialty this weekend since I landed nothing else than those on Saturday. We also took along the shotguns and rifles in case we spotted some white tails and pheasant along the river edge in spots that were public. We did spot several deer, muleys, but we couldn't decide on who was going to go after them on the 60 degree + slopes. Not to mention Mule deer season had closed. We did figure if we had though retrieval would have been easy! Sunday we started early again and fished closer to Lewiston. we landed a few squaw fish and not much else for some time. We did have a flock of about 12 pheasant roosters fly across the river and land on the side opposite the road. We then kicked ourselves for not bringing the shotguns the second day. go figure. I did finally hook and land a decent B-run steelhead before we finished up for the day. That was the only one landed that day. The information I got was that it has been really hit and miss this season. One day will be 16+ fish for a day. The next will be 8. The next 2 will be 2-4, then it will be 9 again, then 2, then 12. You get the picture. At least talking to the other guides up there we were doing as well as anyone on the river for the time we were there and it was a lot of fun either way []
