The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Michigan State University Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health, 4125 Beaumont Road, Lansing.

The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with a meeting of the Marketing and Outreach Advisory Committee. Committee members will receive reports on the Mentored Youth Hunt, the possibility of streaming NRC meetings, using social media for surveys, the Youth Conservation Council, and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Parks and Recreation Division's summer recreation initiatives. Additionally, during this committee update, members will learn more about the DNR Wildlife Division's public engagement and outreach efforts, see a demonstration of the new Pure Michigan website and hear ideas about how the DNR can better partner on the site.

At 1:30 p.m., the Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will review the deer season forecast, discuss wildlife nuisance and damage control permits, discuss bobcat registration requirements, review regulations on Kirtland's warbler nesting areas and discuss cable restraints for trapping. The department's Fisheries Division will report on proposed trout and salmon regulations for the upcoming season.

The Committee of the Whole will meet at 3 p.m., beginning with a report from DNR Director Keith Creagh that will include an update on epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD), which is affecting the state's deer population. A legislative update will follow.

At 4 p.m., the 2013 Turkey Patch Award will be presented.

Public appearances will begin immediately following the award presentation. Those wishing to make public comments to the NRC should contact Deb Whipple, executive assistant to the NRC, at 517-373-2352 or whippled1@michigan.gov to register. Registration for public appearances is available at the meeting as well.

A number of fisheries orders are eligible for action by Director Creagh, including a decision on proposed regulation changes for brook trout on selected Upper Peninsula streams and reduced steelhead creel limits on selected streams in the Lower Peninsula.
