Just wondering where folks went last year and had the most sucess. i'm not asking you exactly where you fished just wondering what last year brought for people. Personally last year was terrible for me. i caught a few at hyrum and i did ok at rockport one afternoon. all bows though, didnt have anything else on my line at all last year! i was flustered.
You're a northerner, no?
This will be my third year on ice. Mantua decks out first. Good on the gills, and some frisky trout. The perch were doing pretty well there last year. Maybe even meet an ice-bass.
Then started hitting Hyrum. Year before the perching was hot, last year was NOT! Don't think I was alone in not finding the stripy yellow friends. The trout are prevalent and very catchable, and they've stocked the crap out of it, so if you like finless Freddie's you can be stoked. Had a few
Days of non-stop action.
Then we tried to hit Newton, and good laaaawd if the chilly winds don't blow. Literally got blown off that lake several times, and the fishing was pretty dismal for us. A few perch, some mini crappie, some small bass, no musky. But most trips didn't leave much time for moving around.
Took a trip up to Glendale and found some perch and troutlets, but that was late season and edges were iffy. Never made it to Willard or da View. One venture to Rockport for the big perchfest - more to support the BFT table than to fish (whew -what a crowd!)
Hoping for better this year. Though when I hear reports of a warm dry winter . . . Our lakes have a lot of rising to do.
Hope to try porcupine this year, maybe make it up to Pineview, possibly some runs north of the border. If ya ever want to hook up for an outing, I'm always game, though no always able.
Last year was one of the poorest Ice fishing years I have had.I blame it on high water levels.I'm hoping this year will be much better.
We usually fish Mantua,Pineview,Lost Creek,Causey,East Canyon,Echo,Rockport,Utah Lake,Willard,Holmes Creek.
The goal is to catch a Tiger Muskie this year ( or 2013)
Anyway, wishing all a Merry Fishmas.Looking forward to all of your reports.Good luck to all and to all a good fight.

I agree with Yotes recommendations and just to get everyone dreaming Cutler had ice around the edges this morning so it's coming. Later J

Agreed, last year was a rough year thru the ice for me and my clan as well. About the only place we could go and consistently catch fish was Utah Lake. Didn't pull one fish up from the Berry in two trips, ditto on two trips to Pineview. Rockport did it's usual thing -- no fish -- but I had fun snagging stickers and free crap at the BFT table.
My five year old daughter caught the big fish of the season, a nice channel cat from UL that she jigged, hooked, and landed while I was 100 yards away from the shack. Oh man, did she scream... (easily the greatest memory I'll probably ever have with her)

Ya Im from Washington Terrace so I think its a pretty central location for me to hit alot of bodies of water. Ive been ice fishin for around 6 yrs now just seemed to me like last year was a bust all the way around. i had a hard time catching anything and now seein the other posts I guess im not alone. not that that is a good thing! the year before it was way good I had causey figured out. never left without my limit of kokes. pineview was good (as long as you could find room to drill a hole) mantua wasnt bad i even had a few good trips to east canyon. I just hope this year will be a better year for all of us! and i hope I can make it out on the ice a little bit. I am going to be a dad for the first time today! so i guess i will just see when i can make it out onto the ice. If i dont get out much maybe I can just fish vicariously through your guy's posts lol
If you don't mind making the trip, I've never had a bad day at Fish Lake. The one time I made it there last year I took 2 guys who had never even ice fished before and both of them caught a limit of 16-20" splake and all the perch they cared to keep. The perch aren't monster there, but definite bigger than the perch from any of the northern waters I fished.

Not the best Ice fishing for me last year either, even at Utah lake. Although I did have a few good days at Utah Lake, my best success had to be at Scofield last winter.

Once Starvation ices it's a pretty great fishery for trout and perch. Can't say the walleye are easy to ice but the trout and perch a pretty fun.
