Got out this afternoon for 3 hours with Alvin to enjoy the nice weather. We did our usual thing and fished the same quarter mile stretch of bank we always fish. It was pretty slow tonight but we did manage to get 12 spots, 1 nice shellcracker, 2 redbreasts, 1 smallie, and TOAD 5.53 lb LM. Alvin threw a pig n jig all evening and I fished with a small crank and a 1/4 oz spinnerbait. All 3 baits produced.
The big girl came on the spinnerbait about 3 feet off the dry rip rap. As soon I set the hook I told Alvin it was a big fish, not sure what it was, but it was big. About a third of the way out she came up and jumped. All you could see was mouth and we both about crapped our pants. Super nice fish and very large, fish would be over 7 pre spawn as her frame was huge.
Great evening on the water. Water temp was 59 or so.
