So I got my ice gear down last night and my son said ”dad, you have to many poles” I laughed and said ”no way, you can never have to many.” I started thinking, I do have kind of a lot, including full size rods. It got me wondering, how many do other guys have? So just curious how many ice rods do you have and take with you on the ice? Same for full size stored in the garage, boat or wherever. Me- 9 full size,(spinning, bait cast, trolling), 8 ice rods. Usaually take 4 with me, other 4 are the loners for the kids and friends. Just curious. C-ya on the ice.

My wife says i have "enough" and not to buy anymore since I can only use two at a time. But... I have 8 in the boat for different types of fishing, 1 fly rod and 5 ice pole which i only take 4 with me and then have 8-10 extra reels that I switch out on on those rods with heavier or lighter lines depending on what i fish for.
I travel a lot for work and your tackle needs to change a lot from AK, HI, FL, CA, CO, ID and of course UT. bottom line, it's not too much if you use them from time to time!
My wife doesn't say anything about it after I asked her how many shoes or purses one women need when she can only use ONE at a time. I WIN! for once.

[Smile] Yeah my wife says the same things. I have 8 ice rods, only take 4. I have 3 fly rods, 3 baitcasters, 1 dip stick, and 4 spinning rods.
Never can have enough gear, I am always taking family and friends out who want to "try" fishing.

Geezus. I did a quick rough count since they're all pretty much in one area. 85, give or take a few.[blush]

I use a dozen or so of them in a year, at most. The rest are spares, back-ups, or one's I've stopped using.

And I don't even ice fish!

My late mother-in-law (an ardently anti-gun Chicagoan) once asked me with definite disapproval in her voice, "How many guns do you have?"

My reply was inspired - and serves for any and all guy-gear. I said, "You know, I think I'm one short."

You never have enough. There is always bigger and better. Just like the size of your fish.

Im scared to count [pirate] I then would have to come up with an excuse to justify how many I really have [pirate][pirate][pirate] and why I NEED all of them [laugh][laugh][laugh]

10 or so ice rods - 10 or so spin rods - 6 troll rods and still one or more short of what i want to have !

Good timing on this thread. A new bamboo just showed up in the mail this afternoon!

I have twice as many Poles now with a second pole permit as I did when I just had one Fishing License.

Lets see, no ice rods, but 5 fly rods, 2 baitcasting, and 13 spinning rods. Those are the better ones that I use, but I have some cheaper ones from when I was newer to fishing as well as some old junkers I somehow acquired. I also gave three decent ones to my brother last year.

I have my float tube set up to where I can bring 6 with me, but I'm still thinking of ways to add spots for more. If I'm wading a river, I usually only bring 1 or 2 depending on the stream.

Well 6 fly rods, 8 spinning rods and 3 or 4 trolling rods, 5 ice fishing rods, but I provide for company quite often as well. Any way I still think I need a couple nicer rod / reel setups. In fact I'm really wanting a couple new reels for ice fishing since I put braid on my reels I usually use. I take 5 rods ice fishing but typically only use 3 or 4. I take too many in the boat they are always in the way. I need to design a good rod holder for the boat. Later j

[quote richmac1]... how many ...[/quote]

Quite the political question for me because I've converted soon to be worth less cash that's on it's way to becoming worthless into what will be of great value soon. Fishing equipment, rods included, is what those into preparedness to the extent that they know they might need things will be prepared to buy with their gold coins. If only they knew that is what they will need to be able to eat in the harsh times to come, they would be able to buy much much more for the price of just one gold coin in these good times. But, after stores are empty and not being able to eat gold coins ...

Anyway, I've been fishing a lot and using many different rods this season and still have a long way to go to try one of each. But, of course I have lots of spares and beyond that is what I have to be a barter commodity for when fishing rods are too valuable to even be a currency.

I still don't have those tiny things used for ice fishing that look like toys, so I might need to buy them. But, I might buy a big tent instead and have room use real fishing rods. Do I really near a tent? Maybe I'll just dress warm and cast out to those ice fishing holes.

Ron often times I read your posts and wonder what in the hell you're going on about...

[#0000ff]But if you have enough rods you can build an overhead shelter.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Off topic here but I had to laugh when I saw a "doomsday" sign a while back. "Please pay your bills promptly. When the world ends we don't want to have to look all over Hell for you."[/#0000ff]

Not even going to count all the rods we have.

I'd rather have them and not need them then need them and not have them...alone in the boat we carry roughly 12-14.

And the awesome MM gang recently presented us with a custom made 8' MH Jawbreaker rod so that will be going in the boat and we can't WAIT to use it.

BLUF (bottom line up front) one can never have enough rods...lets not even talk quantity of lures or even tackle boxes. But I do know if we didn't have our OCD fishing hobby the house would've been paid off at least 8 years ago...[Smile][Smile]
