May be the last trip to the mountain lakes before Ice... which will be better fishing from a boat with a younger kid?

We primarily troll but will stop and bait and jig if the trolling isn't producing.

How is the non-trout fishing at Deer Creek? I wouldn't mind going up and targeting Bass or Walleye either.

I would just go to strawberry if I were you. I went to deer creek 2 weeks ago and tossed all my bass gear at them but it looks like there's no bass action what so ever and the bows are just dinkers 10-12 inches that you can catch in a community pond.

Deer creek just have been doing pretty poor lately for all species. Trust me I tossed out Rapalas, tail grub, tube bait, sinko worms, real live worms bouncing and trolling, crawdad imitations, nymphs, woolly buggers, minnows, ect. Didn't get a bite what so ever. I tossed my whole box of fly and regular gear. Some shore people caught dinker bows but only 2 through the whole day so ya dc sucks till it ice up or when late spring early summer hits in my opinion.

[cool][#0000ff]I don't fish Strawberry much but from all reports it is doing very well...if you fish it right. A lot of nice cutts and bows from fairly shallow water. Good bet for trolling all the standard stuff near shorelines and over weeds.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I do fish Deer Creek. Bass have gone deep and are not likely to show much until at least next May. Perch are also deep and you have to have good sonar and patience to find them and get them to bite...with finesse vertical presentations. You will have to look in at least 40 feet of water to find them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Yes, the recent crop of planted rainbows are a nuisance and are keeping the locals happy. But if you can locate the right depth for the bigger holdover bows there are plenty of 16 to 19 inchers to be had. Also some big browns on large trolled crankbaits. This is a great time of year for them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you have a boat, good sonar, a full tackle box and know how to present lures at the right depth you can have great days on Deer Creek in late fall.[/#0000ff]

Looking for multi species, by all means DC. The launch could be a little taxing however.
As for Strawberry, the fishing is hot, hardly any snow, easy launch.

Thanks for the replies.

I think we'll hit the Berry one more time Saturday. We will have trips Friday/Saturday next week too.

I would like to try some Brown fishing up at Deer Creek.

One last Yuba trip is also on the docket pre-ice.

This is THE time at Strawberry. Dress warm and have some hot chocolate ready for the kiddo and you should have a blast.

Good Luck
