Went up and lauched out of echo this morning. Bummer side of it... There was a mini tournament going and lauching out of Echo. I got out of there before them and got to where I wanted to be first and we were killing them but ran out of areas in that vicinity to hit due to so many tournament guys on top of one another. We were catching doubles right off the bat between Madi and me. A fish per cast to every other cast. We had 40 before we knew it. Mostly spinnerbaits since the LMB are in the shalllllows now and that is about the only safe moving bait to cast in those areas. Also did really well with squarebills but one had to be carefull and selective with your casts due to the brush we were in.

In the end we caught them on spinnerbaits, squarebills, topwater, drop shots, grubs, etc. 59 total. 56 LMB, 2 Stripers and 1 SMB. We caught most of them well before 9am. The rest of the day was a grind trying to hit spots that hadn't been hit already. Between the mini tournament and other fisherman there was more boats up north fishing than I have seen since we got our boat over a year ago.

Also I switched everything I had on my rods to bigger baits. So that curved some of the smaller bites. 2.5 squarebills, series 4 cranks, spinnerbaits, etc. Figured the shad are bigger so go with a bigger bait. Less bites but in some cases better quality bites.

I caught a 4 1/4lb'r on a drop shot. By FAR the biggest I have ever caught on a drop shot. We were cruising the shallows casting spinnerbaits when I looked to the other side of the boat in ~4 foot of water and seen her. I was ahhhhh, biggun! I grabbed the nearest thing I could cast for vertical fishing and she went for it. Up to now the only thing I have ever caught a 4+ pounder on Lake Mead was spinnerbaits and 6XD cranks. Bigger fish baits.

Nice toad man! I bet you would have done well in that tourney.

I bet I would of too now thinking about it.

Between those two that is almost 8 pounds. Add in 3 more average fishes and would of had a decent 5 fish bag. 14'ish pound bag. I have only caught a handfull of 4+ pounders out there in the last year. Far and few apart.
