I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, among other things, so I'll be heading up there tomorrow morning. I am going to fish out of my pontoon boat. Anyone want to head up with me? Once I hit the water, I'm not much for chat as I'm all over the place, but I've got a Prius (hoping for very little snow) and it's hard to argue with 44 mpg. I'd be happy to drag someone up and back with me if anyone is interested. I'm planning on being on the water at dawn and I have to be back down in the valley by 7:00.

PM me or shoot me a text: 801-641-7641

Cheers,

You can get that pontoon in your car? What if someone else wants to go but has a pontoon as well...LOL

There you go Dave, honey up to Duckdog, he'll get you on the big ones.[cool]

I'm going up either Tues/Wed. Just put my boat to bed for the winter so I might take my float tube or fish from shore.

my dad changed my mind and wants to go to starvation so we will have to try that the reason is he wants to shoot geese on the river in the morning

Well, piss.

Looks like I'm on my own again... =) I hope I can have one of those "bad" 24 fish days tomorrow. That'd make me just giddy.

Your post seriously had me considering what the ramifications would be of calling in to work with "fishing fever". I haven't figured out the berry, and one of these days need to go with someone with experience there.

I sent you a PM, but I might as well post it here too. To make a long story short, I had a typical "bad day", as in, I only caught one fish from 9am to 2pm at which point I lucked into catching the village idiot. I didn't catch squat for two more hours and decided to call it a night and head in. I slowly trolled back to the car, wondering why in the Wide World of Sports I sucked so bad. I mean, I used white tube jigs, I tipped them with sucker meat, and I fished the weed lines. I had seven rods with me and I tried every which way and in between, along with every color and size. The only fish I did get was on a brown and red wooly bugger. Anyhow, as I was trolling back I noticed that two guys who had been there for maybe an hour were hooting and hollering. I uncovered my ears and listened to them rub salt in my pathetic wounds by yapping about how they "Got another one!" "Oh nice, ANOTHER DOUBLE!" and "THIS IS ALMOST TOO EASY!" Right... too easy, indeed. I tried to listen for what they were using, but to no avail. One of them did blurt out that he was in 45 feet of water, and when I looked down and my sonar said I was in 15, I thought, "You moron..."

Anyhow, I got a little closer to them and they were still going on and on, so I shouted to them that they were making me Sad. No response, and the suddenly were quiet for the rest of the night. How Sad.

Anyhow, I started trolling a little Gulp Minnow on the smallest jig head I had, and whammo -- fish on. I only had about an hour before complete an total dark, but in that hour I caught 15, all of them on that Gulp Minnow, and all of them within 40 to 45 feet of water. It was so dark when I headed back in, I had a hard time finding my car. And wow, my hands were cold.

Anyhow, here's the only fish I cared to take a picture of:

And here's the magic lure, which of course, will not work when you or I use it again, but that won't stop us from trying it for hours on end. Darn you, Strawberry. Darn you to heck.

I'll be back on Friday with my duck boat, because being in the pontoon boat was cold business.

Good luck, folks!

Glad you got into them. Wish it would have been all day for ya, but at least you ended on a high note. Do you know what the water temp was?

RE" Darn you, Strawberry. Darn you to heck."

Sometimes Strawberry is like that. Even the "pro's" have slow days, whether they want to admit it or not. And other days, it is so easy that anyone can do it. It also can go from slow to fast (and back) in no time. Maybe, that's what makes it fun.

Nice. I'm glad that that was the depth they were hitting at all day, and not that I just got lucky. I'm going tomorrow without a doubt, and I will slay many.

I've said before Strawberry is often about experimentation -- at least for me.

When I go with my father we both have two pole licenses and we never start with two of the same thing on the end of the pole.

And often we cycle through changing all of them before we find something the fish are hitting.

And often by the end of the day, all four poles have the same thing on the end.

And it can change from one day to the next.

I have piles of crap in my tackle box that has caught fish ONE day and ONE DAY ONLY at Strawberry.
