Full Version: electric ice auger??

I am going to buy a new auger this year. I have narrowed my decision down to the new Strikemaster Honda Lite or the new Ion electric auger. I really like the idea of the electric auger. Being able to drill holes inside a shelter, not dealing with the smell of gas, etc. But, just worried about reliability and going about getting it serviced if it needs it. This is the first year for the Ion so there aren't really any reviews or testimonials, other than the manufacturers. Just wondering what opinions are out there concerning buying an electric auger.

Those new ions look pretty sweet, pick one up and let us all know how they run!

I don't know about the ion but I own a 8" Strikemaster.
Bought it early last year and used it all last season. Works great! Drills almost as fast as the gas models. There were days I drilled over 30 holes in a foot of ice with no troubles. Mine uses a lead acid battery (the ion I don't know. Lythium ion maybe better) This has lead to less holes drilled in extreme zero deg days.
Very dependable.
