I see boats in marinas on the mississippi and there appears to be no way to charge batteries--do the take batteries home each night or are there portable units made for charging? If so what do you look for?

Yes, they are called generators[

]. I can't speak for those marinas on the mississippi but friends of mine that fish tournaments always take small generators along with them to charge their batteries. You are talking about the batteries for your electric trolling motor aren't you?

If you choose to buy a small generator, do the research. Generic have several problems.
We looked for several weeks and ended up buying the smaller Champion

It is as quiet as a Honda or Yamaha at half the price, plus it is stackable with the accessories.
Plus ours came with a built in charger.

Thats is a good to know, I had no idea that anyone made a generator as quite as Honda. I bought mine years ago before Y2K as an emergency back up for my house and stored it in the back of my motorhome for fishing trips. After that, I quit using my motor home because of the high cost of gas but still use the gen at home when the power goes out. It was really too big to take in and out of the motorhome anyway, so the newer ones, they sell today, are much better for what this guy wants to do anyway. Good info on the Champion.

I need to say, not all champion, just the 2000. Light, and easy to pack. We bought one and you couldn't hear it hardly at all at Strawberry. But during the summer, we run the Air in the trailer, so we bought another and piggy back them. It is a louder running it under that load, but still more quiet than other generators at that cost.
