I know this place is top secret for some reason but are there any of you that would be willing to help me on what to use as far as jigs and bait. last time I went up there I didn't catch a thing and I want to try it again this year.
any help/suggestions would be appreciated. I live in UT but I want to catch some bigger fish.
Thanks!

I don't know of anyone that has been out to Chesterfield in awhile.
You might do a search on here for last year's ice season posts. I think there were quite a few. If they don't mention what they were using try PM to them.
Good Luck!

When I was down there last year I used small black tube jigs or gizzybugs from Maniac Lures. I noticed after the fist time I was down there when I cleaned what we brought home that they were clear full of snails. So after that, rootbeer colored jigs and black did the best for me, but you just never know. This year could be something completely different. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Paddle bugs have always done well for me. 10-15 feet of water depending on the year.

My dad is from Pocatello and he was at Chesterfield last week, first week of December, no ice yet. Water is way down and he slogged out in the mud and tossed a crawler and marshmellow in. He brought home a 6lb. and a 5lb. rainbow. FSG put in a bunch of those fast growing trout that are sterile in October and he caught a bunch of those little ones. I'm looking forward to ice season, be sure to have anchors for your rods, those hogs will jerk those little rods down holes faster than you can say @@@******!!!!!!!.

My dad and I had personal bests thanks to Chesterfield this year. The first of may we got out there and my dad right before dark got a seven lb. rainbow, I have never touched a fish of that size, but the next day trolling I got one 7.5 lbs and for two days straight we threw back no less than 50 fish in the five lb. range. This is one of the only lakes I have been on that I can troll all year round and still get big fish to hit. You are right, these fish are full of snails, and when you go to clean them they reek, don't clean in mama's kitchen she will beat you with a stick. Don't give up on this lake, it will pay big dividends for you.

As far as ice conditions, this may not be too helpful, but I was out by it today for work. Talked to the guy who owns the property on the western shore. He said there were a few venturing out onto the ice in the corner by the dam, but that the rest was still a bit sketchy. I tried driving over there to look, but it was dark by the time I was able to and I couldn't see much.

Was the guy you talked to farmer around sixty in a white truck and a big belt buckle or one of the other dozen people that stop to chat. I was feeling so popular I thought about running for mayor.

No, the guy I talked to lives by the lake. I was servicing their DishNetwork system.

Ice is very ugly. It's 3 inches near the edge to 1.5 and the open water in the middle. Fished at the dam and never made past 12 feet deep. The edges bad in most spots. Drill, check and move slow or you'll be the one that is wet! Today catch was not worth the drive!
