I drove to Strawberry today to check out the ice for an upcoming scout outing. Bottom line... there is none, actually I found some by Strawberry Bay, but mud creek, which is one of the first bays to ice up, was all open water, although the temp at 3 pm today was 22. Attached is a photo of Mud Creek, Strawberry Bay, and the lodge/store at Strawberry Bay. May be a week or two yet before the ice shows up.

Prior to driving to the Berry, we ran the snowmobile up to Mill Hollow Res to check on the ice there. Snow was about a foot deep on the ice with 3 to 4 inches of slush. Ice was very solid, although I did not punch a hole in it. Also attached are 3 pictures of that area. One is looking east towards the camp grounds, one looking south across the lake and one looking up the hill at my son. I was standing on the ice at the dam when taking the pictures.

Thanks for sharing the pics! I am starting to get concerned that I won't be ice fishing at Strawberry during Christmas break with my kids....

Be of good cheer, my friends. With this good forcast http://www.ksl.com/?nid=88
it looks like ice fishing will be had in Northern Utah VERY soon. Keep in mind, this forecast is for THE VALLEY. Colder temps than that will be had at all of our fave ice fisheries during the next week.

Soldier Creek side usually freezes up first. I went by there Wednesday the 12th on the way to Stravation and the first little bay by the road that goes into the dam was frozen. How thick is another story.

However the air temp by the road going into the main marina was 12 degrees at 9:00AM.

That is good news. That little arm is quite shallow. If I hadn't needed t0 be home by 5, I would have driven over to Soldier Creek and checked the ice thickness. Guess we are in business for fishing there on or about the 27th.
