hey everyone, me and some friends are planing to try to get burbot through the ice at FG this year and i was wondering if anyone has any tips, went last year for the first time and didnt have much luck. we used glow jigs and baited with some dead bait and still had no luck, hoping for some better luck this year and was just wondering if anyone had some friendly advice on where to find them there and with what baits with past success, any help is much appreciated.

You can type burbot is the search above and get all the info you might ever need. This time of the year, they are moving shallow to spawn, so fish in 8 to 30 ft of water, along a rocky shore line or point. Glow jigs and glow curly tail grubs with sucker meat, chub meat also works. Fish in the late afternoon and evening. They can be caught all night, which is the best time. Charge jigs every 10 to 15 min. Firehole is the first place that freezes in most year, so start there if you are planning on ice fishing, they can also be caught, fishing from a boat. Good luck and please post a report when you get back.

Crawdad smelly jelly will help as well, if you don't catch anything in 30 minutes, move.

Well that was good timing fishrmn, thanks for the info.
It's funny, because I was going to say, in most years, it is frozen by now. FYI, if you want to catch some bots there, you better go soon, that place gets fished out quick. As far as road conditions, it is open all winter and the road is usually in good condition, except for the snow drifts but the snow plows come by often, so as long as you don't go when there is a storm, you will be fine. Good luck Fishassassin and let us know how you do.

Thanks for the info, looks like I need to head up sooner than I had planned. Anybody know how thick the ice is there at firehole?

I have had only one opinion on burbot at table fare. They guy said boil, skin, they fry it and it tastes like lobster. Sounds a bit too good to be true. What's you're take on eating these snakiest freaks?
