Drove up through bone to Blackfoot yesterday to see if there was ice. Came over the hill to see a nice solid white lake. Went to the dam and fished there for the morning. Fishing was very good. Ice was 4 inches and very solid. We did talk to a gentleman who had been up to pebble beach area and he said the ice was thicker there. The road through bone was snow covered and slick but no drifts. That could change with the forcast the next couple of days. Good luck if you go. And put new line on your rods..the lunkers are roaming.

Just thought Id pass this along..... I talked with a guy that went out and said the ice looked good and as he was checking holes with his auger the ice went from 4" to 2" in about 20 yards. There are springs all over blackfoot reservior and places that never freeze or places that will freeze an inch or so and deceive you.

I have seen this first hand, last year I was pulling my ice sled attached to my sno machine and hit 100 yards of slush ice and water, I dont know how I didn't sink everything. Im all for early season ice fishing but I dont think its worth dying for a fish.....

[#ff0000]oh and one more thing, if you catch a cutthroat they are protected and all have to go back in the water.[/#ff0000]

Glad you mentioned that cutthroats have to be released, I was up there this fall and I walked over to chat with some guys who had been pulling them in one after another, they had a nice pile of rainbows and then I noticed a couple of cutthroats stashed under their truck [mad]. I had no cell coverage and I think they noticed that I had seen the fish and they took off soon after. I should have gotten their licence plate number but didn't think about it until after they had left.

Yeah the pelicans have done a number on them in the past few years. Every other one I catch will have scars from being sniped at by them while they are spawning. With all the snow we have gotten this past 2 days Im sure all the roads will be unaccessable.
It will snomachine only for the rest of the year, you wont see me with my snomachine on the ice till it hits 10-12".

Be safe

I am aware of the regs on the cutts at Blackfoot. He swam away after a quick picture.

Has anyone accessed Blackfoot from the Henry side?I have never been to the lake but wanted to give it a try this weekend.

was up there today, looks like bone is blown in, blackfoot in is a go but only to the bridge below the dam. No clue on the Henry's side. Didn't check Ice as we were more intent on trying to wack some green heads.

Has anyone been up there over the last few days? I was hoping to go up tomorrow with family but we have never been there during the winter. Not really looking for a fishing report as much as a road report. I would like to access it from the soda springs side if possible. Any information is greatly appreciated. Tight lines,

I talked to a guy who was up there today and he was not able to get all the way in to where he wanted to go from Bone. He was fishing and had 12 inches of ice. I am going to try to get in from Henry tomorrow and will post the results. Maybe I will see you up there

Thanks!

Where on the reservoir are you planning on fishing if you don't mind me asking?

It stormed pretty hard here in Alpine so we decided against going to Blackfoot. Ended up going up to Slide lake instead.
